After a terrorist attack in a movie theater, Randall is assigned to catch the evil terrorist, Malak Al Rahim, who has killed more than 140 persons in his attempt. However, the real intention of his disaffection from CIA, John Lipton, is to use Randall as a bait to catch Malak. Terry and Danny are murdered by one terrorist and Randall discovers that the Malak's agenda is to blow-up a chemical facility and kill thirty thousand persons. But Randall now seeks revenge against Malak. This movie features a character who is a descendant of the character played by Steve McQueen in the television series of the same name. And like McQueen's Josh Randall, Hauer's Nick Randall is also a bounty hunter. & also an ex-CIA operative, who is asked by his former employer to help them track down a terrorist, Malak Al Rahim, who is in the country, and has already made a move. But he is also looking for Randall, and the people, whom Randall is working for, is telling Malak, where he can find Randall. Despite the title, this movie really has no similarity to the TV show WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE. In fact, it's an incredibly violent and mind-rotting piece of garbage without a single interesting moment. I remember when a co-worker rented this piece of &*@@!*$ when we were both doing an overnight shift at the hospital. He thought it was pretty cool, but everyone else there just was horrified by how violent and stupid the movie was. There didn't seem to be much plot--just Gene Simmons killing a lot of people and the good guy(?) Rutger Hauer doing the same in the name of law and order! And, in the end, we were treated with one of the most gratuitous and violent endings, when he shoved a hang grenade in Simmons' mouth and pulled the pin. I just wish the pin had been pulled a lot sooner and ended this mess! This movie should be of interest only to psychotics and sociopaths--all others, steer clear at all costs. This is exactly the sort of film that demeans our society and desensitizes us to evil. Don't watch this film! PS--Instead of Gene Simmons from KISS, using the actress Jean Simmons might have made this movie a lot more interesting! She could do more than just make evil leers, so she couldn't help but improve the part. Steve McQueen had died in 1980, and the buzz about the Wanted Dead or Alive movie started around 1984. Sadly, the movie had nothing of the spirit of Josh Randall at all. Steve McQueen's Josh Randall character was very direct and to the point. He was not sentimental at all, and he often had to use his smarts and his sawed off rifle to get out of trouble. Josh Randall also used a lot of snappy dialogue and quick wit. Josh never stayed in one place. He was always on the move, and he loved women, but he was never in love. Rutger Hauer's version of the character is very morose and sentimental. He is in love with a girlfriend. He is attached to a boat and a warehouse that is also his man-cave. There is no witty dialogue from Hauer. There is no fast action either. Hauer is kind of boring to watch.

The action is typical of a Chuck Norris movie, The A-Team TV series, or Hunter TV series. It looks like generic action sequences were used from some "Action Scenes Handbook." There is a fair amount of shooting, explosions, and killing, but it is not fresh or exciting. This movie is not bad, but it is far from great.
