22 Aug 2017 The World Society of the Abdominal Compartment Syndrome has published the following definitions and recommendations : Intra-abdominal hypertension is defined by a sustained or repeated pathological elevation in IAP of ?12 mm Hg. ACS is defined as a sustained IAP >20 mm Hg associated with organ dysfunction/failure.
Abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) occurs when the intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) rises to a level that impairs organ perfusion, causing new organ dysfunction. It is defined as a sustained IAP over 20 mmHg and/or an abdominal perfusion pressure below 60 mmHg.
Intraabdominal Hypertension, Abdominal. Compartment Syndrome, and the Open. Abdomen. William Kirke Rogers, MD; and Luis Garcia, MD. Abdominal prospective randomized trials evaluating their treatment or prevention; this concise review abdominal perfusion pressure; IAH = intraabdominal hypertension;.
Because several treatment options (both medical and surgical) are available, IAH and ACS should no longer be considered irrelevant epiphenomena of severe illness or critical care. .. Abbreviations: ACS, abdominal compartment syndrome; IAH, intra-abdominal hypertension; ICU, intensive care unit; NA, not available.
2 Aug 2017 Surgical decompression with midline laparotomy is the standard ultimate treatment once ACS with organ dysfunction is established. . ACS = abdominal compartment syndrome; APP = abdominal perfusion pressure; IAH = intraabdominal hypertension; IAP = intraabdominal pressure; MAP = mean arterial

SUGGESTIONS included use of medical therapies and percutaneous catheter drainage for treatment of IAH/ACS, considering the association between body position and IAP, attempts to avoid a positive fluid balance after initial patient resuscitation, use of enhanced ratios of plasma to red blood cells and prophylactic open
