Specifically, 25 years after "The Extinction War," when an army of lower angels, assembled by the archangel Gabriel, waged war against mankind. The archangel Michael, turning against his own kind, chose to side with humanity. Rising out of the ashes of this long battle are newly fortified cities which protect human survivors. At the center of the series is the city of Vega, a glistening empire that has formed from the ruins of what was once Las Vegas. Follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he's the unlikely savior of humanity. Probably one of the best, most dramatic and engrossing shows that I've ever obsessed about! The cast has amazing chemistry with complex characters, plot twists and thought provoking content. Who knew angels could be so sexy as well as so... human! I don't want to spoil anything but you should really watch all of season 1 before getting into season 2 to help get a base and feel for it all. It just gets grittier and darker with each episode as we expand into this post apocalyptic world of angels vs humans. This show gets under your skin and it's a fever you don't want to break! Probably my favorite characters are the Archangels. Michael and Gabriel are the classic Cain & Abel. It's old testament style with all the blood and heart ache that will make you think. Angels have become the new vampires! This is just poorly written to begin with. Terrible dialog, poorly developed new language, inconsistent world building. It seems SyFy is doubling down on the Defiance formula, which is a shame. Two terrible tentpole series. It is far too camp but takes itself too seriously, a combination that doesn't work. From Dusk Till Dawn was camp and cheeky, and ran with it. This mess however, is just the wrong combination of ridiculous and mediocre, suffering from an identity crisis. If this were Kings (where Christopher Egan was also the lead, and which also had biblical inspiration) the soap opera elements would work, but they were just not able to pull it off here. The acting: I'm not really sure whether it's bad acting or just lazy directing. They seem lost and painted in broad strokes (so to speak) and seem like bit parts in a high school production aka Eragon (zing! Christopher Egan also appears in that one). There seems to be a "let's wing it" attitude towards the characters in this show. The actor playing Michael must have realized that this is a ridiculous show, and is just dying inside every time he has a scene. Otherwise, he would follow Tom Mison's (Sleepy Hollow) and Stephen Amell's (Arrow) lead and fully embrace the character, warts and all. Lens flare. What is with the ending; torches burning on the walls of a stone temple. What is this the 1980's, when people still found Indiana Jones cool?
