LA Times mentions 2NE1 and GD&TOP in an article!
QUOTE
Girls’ Generation, 2NE1, GD&TOP (Big Bang), JYJ, Wonder Girls and others from South Korea are expanding audiences in U.S. beyond Korean Americans
August Brown of the Los Angeles Times, one of the largest distributed newspapers in America, recently wrote an
in depth article on how K-pop is slowly penetrating the American pop consciousness. The article talks about how the
Internet is the driving force in spreading Korean pop culture and the shift of focus in Korean media companies. How they’re thinking beyond the domestic market and trying to directly reach the global market.
But it seems like the whole article is all about Girls' Generation and 2NE1 has just been mentioned maybe two or three times.
It tackles about K-Pop's domination and the stars who are likely to be the reason behind this "huge success".YG Family's members,2NE1 and BIG BANG's unit group, GD&TOP are mentioned in this statement..Poised at the intersection of two countries’ fast-moving pop cultures and cutting-edge media technology, the sprawling genre colloquially known as
K-pop has operated outside the American pop limelight. But that’s changing.A-list producers like Will.I.Am, Diplo and Kanye West who lined up to work with South Korean artists like 2NE1, GD&TOP and JYJ.
QUOTE
It also set a template that, alongside a broad array of peer acts like the more rap-inclined 2NE1 and dance-heavy group Wonder Girls, suggested that South Korea's pop music culture was coming into its own. Though the term "K-pop" is as reductive as referring to diverse U.S. artists like Lady Gaga, Skrillex and Lil Wayne as "A-pop," it captures the scope of the South Korean music celebrity scene.
But it's not only the girls and GD&TOP who are mentioned in this article. They also refer to YG Entertainment and
SM Entertainment. But I guess they forgot to mention JYP Entertainment who completes the list of the "Three Major Agencies
In Korea" along with the other two.
QUOTE
The overwhelmingly single-gender bands, cast by talent agencies for Korean corporate label conglomerates like
SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment, created fierce and ever-evolving loyalties — imagine picking your favorite
Beatle or Rolling Stone if there were 10 of them.
Just like it was, that was the only line that 2NE1 and GD&TOP has been mentioned and the rest of the articles,if not about Girls' Generation and Wonder Girls, are about concerts that was held outside Korea. There's an article that stated that 2NE1 will likely held their comeback later this May.And also it says that 2NE1 will also work on their U.S. debut sooner.
I remember there's an article asking if Girls' Generation will make it big in the U.S. Market. The reason why I'm letting you
all to know this is that,I can say 70-80% of the people been interviewed there believes that 2NE1 will make it bigger that
SNSD.Most of the netizens think this way:
QUOTE
They (SNSD) just seems to be like Pussycat Dolls.I believe 2NE1 will make it bigger than them because U.S already
had the same style as SNSD,we have PCD and Beyonce. On 2NE1,U.S doesn't have any group like them and it will be unique.
Peeps, there's still no official statement about 2NE1's U.S debut but one thing's for sure.Will.I.Am is still working on it.But
being mentioned in LA Times only means one thing. That 2NE1 is getting popular throughout the world. It is really true that THE WORLD IS 2NE1'S!
