110921 Nolza Album Review: Kenn Kato
Kenn Kato is a is a Washington DC -born songwriter, producer, copy writer, and writers.
This review does not reflect the opinions of YGL but is one persons thoughts on the Nolza album. Like with the recent review of 2NE1's Collection album by the LA Times, its healthy to see what others think of the girls' discography.
I was surprised when I found out YGEX is a company joint launched by the Korean company YG Entertainment and Avex.
I like YG entering the Japanese market, but recreating their old songs for the Japanese market wasn't a positive decision in order to advance into the local market here.
Anyway,
Producer Teddy's production of quality music is incredibly high. I can see big success ahead of him in Japan with the beats and lyrics he produces.
2NE1's target isn't about being a cute high school student falling in love or being cute and beautiful in general. They broke the ice by focusing on how ordinary girls being open and brave and aiming for a new change in this world. Comparing to KARA and Girls Generation's images, theirs is unique with a very clear distinctive meaning.
I didn't mean the member's aren't cute enough, they are, but they're better with the powerful image they have. Their fashion sense is mighty and unique, so are their songs.
The important part is the language used in the songs. Recreating everything into Japanese isn't easy. The lyrics have to be written with utmost care in order for a song to improve. With pros and cons.
I like clear and attractive styles. With most songs being similar to America's tunes, this is an official ground breaker.
UGLY is my personal favorite. People should know the meaning of this song is very clear. The MV is complex with paintings and fire sparkles etc. which is an absolute hit.
Second favorite is Don't Stop The Music. It is sad there wasn't an MV for it.
I was going to make a new song, but I had a feeling to watch the girls live and see their performance. I was shocked by the large amount of female fans! (laughs)
And now we run through 2NE1's first arena tour. Whether it's CD or live, they give off an astounding performance. NOLZA is a great gift to fans. Please try to listen to their songs with a sensible ear only then you will understand the meaning.
