[ARTICLE] 2NE1′s 3rd Anniversary Countdown Special: D-10 “And so it begins…"
It was mid-2008 when YG Entertainment released official news about their next project, a group who was going to be “the female Big Bang". There had been rumors swirling around for months prior to the news that a new group would be debuting from YGE; however, the official news seemed to confirm that rumoured members, Bom, CL and Minji were going to be part of this group. Initially planned to be a three member group, the number was changed to five later on (with the addition of Dara & an unknown trainee) before the final four members that presently make up 2NE1 were decided and the rest as they say, was history…

Who still doesn’t replay this pre-debut video of the confirmed 2NE1 members decked in all-black and dancing with perfect sync and chemistry?
It was the first insight we got into seeing how our precious four girls work together.
Even back then, each of the girls were already known to the public through various collaborations and practice videos, with Bom, CL and Dara featured in various other projects while Minji was known as the “dancing prodigy."

Despite the anticipation that was building up for the latest addition to the YG Family, the first official news on their debut came almost a year later. It came in the form of a news article announcing their first official appearance, in a CF with label-mates, Big Bang for a new LG phone called “Lollipop". And before the release of the CF, Dara also got to tap into her acting skills for a brief role in “The Return of Iljimae“, where she became friends with her co-star Jung Il Woo.
After “Lollipop" was released, the group was given the name: 21. However, it was soon discovered that another Korean musician went by that same name and YGE eventually changed the name to “2NE1", with “NE" standing for New Evolution, and the “21″ representing the 21st century.

With that, the 2NE1 that we all know and love was officially born. Following the success of “Lollipop, the word spread that they would bring a new sound to Kpop. However, no one could anticipate the storm they would bring to the Korean music and fashion scene in the coming years back then. Not even us fans.
This quick trip down memory lane thus brings us to our ‘question for the day’:
Do you remember the girls in 2008? What were your thoughts on their imminent debut?
We want to hear you Blackjacks! Leave your comments of reminiscence behind as we countdown to 2NE1′s 3rd Anniversary. D-10!
