K-Pop Blows Up: Korean Music Finds Fans Worldwide
Korean pop music groups turned a corner in 2011, expanding their audience worldwide, despite the language barrier. Two of the most popular bands are 21, whose music projects ideas of self-worth, and Girls' Generation, which has nine members. -- NPR.ORG
NPR, formerly National Public Radio, is a privately and publicly funded non-profit membership media organization that serves as a national syndicator to a network of 900 public radio stations in the United States. NPR produces and distributes news and cultural programming. Individual public radio stations are not required to broadcast all NPR programs that are produced. NPR stations reach 32.7 million listeners overall.
Ann Powers is NPR Music's critic and correspondent. She is one of the nation's most notable music critics, Powers has been writing for The Record, NPR's blog about finding, making, buying, sharing and talking about music, since April 2011. Powers served as chief pop music critic at the Los Angeles Times from 2006 until she joined NPR. Prior to the Los Angeles Times, she was senior critic at Blender and senior curator at Experience Music Project. From 1997 to 2001 Powers was a pop critic at The New York Times and before that worked as a senior editor at the Village Voice. Powers began her career working as an editor and columnist at San Francisco Weekly.

Taz Comment: Although some information is OBVIOUSLY wrong and there is a sense of derision from Ann Powers, I was glad to see that she seemed to appreciate 2NE1 rather well. This is great just mainstream America exposure for our girls, it's great.
