Follow 2NE1’s 'Kitch Look' and you can also be bright and eye catching!
Out with the dull and in with classic styles and beautiful colour tones, all thanks to the ‘Kitch Look’, which puts together a beautiful combination of winter clothes and breaks the dreary winter mood.
The “Kitch Look", which is still very unfamiliar to most people living in Hong Kong/Asia (I'm not exactly sure who they're referring to when they say 'we', because I'm assuming that this article was originally from a Korean website but later translated to this HK website), is a very well-known and inexpensive way of dressing fashionably overseas. This look is purposely ‘complex’, with the intention being to ‘high-light’ a specific design/pattern on a single product/item that is being worn in a manner of dress. ...To put that in English, the ‘Kitch’ style of dressing is to choose to wear items of clothing that show a lot of personality and energy to create unexpected “surprises" in the way you look.
With regards to the boom of the ‘Kitch Look’, ‘experts’ unanimously agree that it is a culminated response from those who want to “make fun of European youths that only love branded items of clothing and products." Fans of the “Kitch" look refuse to conform to clichés and strive be more intrinsic in thought (think for themselves), and this look is usually favoured by those who have a strong sense of spirit and personality.
Primary colours and exaggerated designs add to the ‘naïve’ and youthful feel of the Kitch look; this follows the look that many celebrities aim for. That is, to bring about an innovative feel to themselves. Although the bold blocking of colour and mix of eclectic patterns is not for everyone, it has been recognized that an exponential amount of youths are embracing and completely immersing themselves in this look, unable to get away even if they tried.
For people who don’t wear such clothes however, they believe the “Kitch Look" is the look reserved for the ‘rebels’ of society, which puts those who adopt the “Kitch Look" in a negative light.
A single fancy and exquisite product
Brilliant colour can be considered the one of the most important factors in the “Kitch" Look. If it is your first time trying out the Look, then the most important thing you have to emphasise is the colour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Having a distinctive shot of bright colour during the drab winter season will make your clothing even more brilliant, glorious! and eye-catching, not to mention really showing people that you’re fashion savvy. In this case, it is not exaggeration to say that you’ll be killing two birds with one stone ;)
This winter, the colour Orange seems to be all the rage, so it is only natural to make sure you have a lick of firey orange colour on you at all times to perfect your Kitch look. Suppose you were to dress in all black to allow focus on the 1-2 pieces of bright orange accessories you had on, then you can rest assured that you have most definitely achieved the most ‘basic’ of Kitch looks.
Patterns, the brightest way to show off individuality
If you are to understand the Kitch Look to some extent, then pay close attention to wearing patterns and prints that show off your individuality!
Being brave enough to wear bold and sharp patterns and prints that express who you are can minimise the apprehensiveness of trying the Kitch Look. It’s okay if you’re not used to wearing stripes and checkered patterns in your everyday wear, there are a lot of other new and unique individual things you can try in order to create your own look. If you haven’t tried a good ol’ ‘mix n match’, then here is your invitation to do so now!! You never know! You might look amazing and realise that all you needed was a little push to try something new.
Make the most of unique ornaments!
The 'Kitch' Style can be a single, wild and unique product that you’re wearing, from ornaments popularised by celebrities, to small loose change bags that are purchasable from stationery shops that can be worn and used flexibly. Adding ornaments such as silver studs to your handbag and shoes is another great way to add personality to your items and to yourself. Stockings and leggings with ladders can also be worn to creative the perfect Kitch style to express non-conformity!
Moreover, supposed you were to wear a rather avant-garde scarf or pair of gloves to keep out the wintry chill, then voila! You have just effortlessly dressed up à la “Kitch"!
All that being said, the ultimate ‘Kitch’ look is perfected when you can bravely sling your handbag onto your shoulder and walk about with an air of self-confidence. Hopefully now everyone is now a little more confident in trying out the ‘Kitch’ look.
