COLLECTION Album & Scream Single Rank #5 and #14 Weekly on Oricon
2NE1's new album Collection has ranked #5 on the weekly Oricon chart with 22,224 copies sold, just behind Madonna's new album. While this number is 4,000 less than NOLZA's first week it is still very encouraging considering the comparatively little promotion this album had. 2NE1 only promoted with one TV performance of SCREAM and performed during the Springgroove Concerts while for NOLZA 2NE1 appeared on regular Japanese music shows and were in the middle of their own concert tour. Second week numbers will show if this small dip in first week sales is simply due to lack of promotion and if the album will have the same longevity as the NOLZA mini album did.
On the singles chart 2NE1 managed to come in at #14 with 5,896 in sales despite all the songs on the single also appearing on the album. This shows that 2NE1 does have a significant enough fanbase that would be willing to buy the songs twice just for the extra footage and material on the single. The song SCREAM did very well on the Japanese iTunes charts accumulating almost 3,000 downloads in just 5 days. Fire, Like a Virgin and I Don't Care also charted and the album Collection as a whole was #2 on iTunes for a long time, just under brother group Big Bang's new album which also sold very well.

Also note that DJ Kaori's JMIX V came in at #8 weekly with 15,867 in sales. It is a compilation album of Japanese hits and includes 2NE1's hit Go Away (Japanese version).
2NE1 continues to slowly move their way up in Japan. While it may seem slow in comparison to their explosive popularity in South Korea, the truth is there are no girl group of 2NE1's style that have huge, nationwide popularity Japan. Fellow K-pop girl groups Rainbow, After School, Secret and 4Minute's album sales are all lower than 2NE1's. Particularly of interest are After School's album which sold around 17k first week and Rainbow's which was also released this week and sold 13k. On top of new music, new videos, tons of photo-shoots and variety shows, 2NE1 is most importantly having fun and being true to themselves in Japan and I'm sure every blackjack hopes that will continue.
