Intervju med GIRUGÄMESH!!!
Steven:
For our first question, would you please explain who you are and what you do in the band?
girugämesh: girugamesh is a four-piece band which is composed of Satoshi (vocal), Nii (guitar), ShuU (bass) and Яyo (drums).
Steven: Is girugamesh the first band you have been in?
girugämesh: Yes, girugamesh is our first band that all of the members can face in the same direction and share one thing.
Steven: How did you get started in the music business?
girugämesh: We were just enjoying playing, then we got into the music business before we knew it.
Steven: How did you all decide to use the name “girugamesh”?
girugämesh: Ryo picked this name because of the impact this name has.
Steven: Whenever you all write a new song, what typically inspires your ideas and thought processes?
girugämesh: Usually Nii, ShuU and Яyo write songs using a computer. All of us listen to our instincts at that moment.
Steven: Earlier this year you released the song “Volcano” as a DVD-single. Was there any reason that you chose to release it on DVD instead of on standard CD?
girugämesh: It’s not fun to just listen to the songs on CD player, is it? We would like our fans to enjoy our songs visually just like at our live shows, so we made DVD.
Steven: When you start the writing process, which comes first, the music or the lyrics?
girugämesh: Most of the time music comes first.
Steven: girugamesh recently had their first U.S. live as part of the giant J-Rock Revolution festival. Were you all surprised by the turnout at the event?
girugämesh: Yes, we were all surprised and at the same time, were so very excited.
Steven: The Japanese rock scene in America (and Europe) has really expanded in the last few years. Do you all think that this is just a fad or is it here to stay?
girugämesh: Well, maybe some people get excited because of a fad, but real “J-Rock” bands will survive.
Of course girugamesh will survive.
Steven: Do you have any plans to release domestic copies of your music? (Aside from what is released on iTunes)
girugämesh: Not right now, but we hope we can.
Steven: Have you considered doing your own American one-man tour? Any plans?
girugämesh: We don’t have any plans for now, but we hope we can do it someday.
Steven: Since most fans in America and Europe cannot understand the lyrics without translation, is it any harder to try and connect with fans around the world?
girugämesh: Rock is a universal language!
Steven: Many people debate about whether or not girugamesh is visual-kei. Do you all consider yourselves a visual-kei band, or would you rather associate yourself with a different style?
girugämesh: It depends on how you define “Visual-kei”. Our look is based on the sound of our music, and our makeup is just to help create the mood. Actually we don’t like to be categorized.
Steven: What other bands do you all enjoy listening to?
girugämesh: We listen to any genre of music.
Steven: Out of all of the concerts and recording experiences you have had, what is one of your favorite memories? Your worst memory?
girugämesh: Our favorite memory is when we stayed over at a recording house to do recording. The worst memory is working straight for 3~4 days.
Steven: Several years ago you all performed a cover of Mika Nakashima’s “GLAMOROUS SKY”. Have you all considered covering any other artists, or are there any artists you would like to cover?
girugämesh: We just do it when we think we want to do it.
Steven: If you had to pick one girugamesh song, which one would be your favorite?
girugämesh: Every song is our favorite.
Steven: What if you had to pick one song by any band on Earth? Which song is your absolute favorite?
girugämesh: There are no special songs we like.
Steven: Last but not least, please leave a message for your fans.
girugämesh: We’ll go to the States to raise a “girugamesh” flag sometime soon! (we hope!)
