The room was dark, except for a single lit candle on the bedside table. Under its light lay a blank sheet of paper and a pencil. A man locked the only door leading to the room and sat down on the bed.
A tear formed in his eye. He allowed it to roll down his cheek. On the other side of the bed stood an IV drip rack with a large bag of saline solution hanging from it. The man pulled the rack closer and untangled the tubing with the hollow needle attached to the end. Slowly, he pushed the cold metal into his arm. He tapped the large bag of liquid with his finger and saw the first bubble. He set the drip to a minimum.
The man turned back to the bedside table and picked up the pen. He wrote a few rows on the thin paper and whispered:
“I hope this goes over well," while another tear rolled off his chin. When the man was finished, he took a deep breath and signed the note with his name. Then his eyes rolled back, and he fell unconscious into the bed.
