Chapter 1:
A perishing artform:
Along with most forms of teachings, art is one that you need to work on constantly to keep learning and understanding how to paint reality on a 2d paper. I will from now on try to put my thoughts out for you who are interested in reading my bad grammar. For fun purpose I will write it as if it was the book Bushido. Hence the name Way of the pen instead of the sword..
The ABC of drawing/painting.
From a early age I started drawing, I enjoyed to create a fictive world on paper with heroes and villains. At the age of 16, I realized i wanted to do this for the rest of my life. But still with the though of becoming a professional in art I just painted as if it was a hobby. I really wanted to learn anatomy and such, but progress was slow cause i though highly of my art. Why? because I was young and all my friends and family told me constantly how awesome my work was. Blinded by this , I did feel like I had in some way reached the top(this at a stage where i could not even paint a face properly), The though "this is my style" was often in my head, as if it was a way of shielding me from outside critique. If i got critiqued I would get angry and frustrated at the person.
I notice many artists in the beginning suffers from this condition, and its normal. Called the Dunning Kruger Effect.
To quote Bertrand Russell
“‘In the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt."
And here comes the stone-cold truth;
To not get in this trap is to admit to yourself that your skills are not as great as you think. I myself realized that now for a year ago.
I have not seen a person here who is not still working on his ABC(the basics). But I also believe a major of these people perhaps think they are passed that level cause they are the only on at school who knows how to make shadows on photoshop. I myself is still in grade-school of art. Still struggling with simple stuff. I am still learning the Abc, and still making shit loads of mistakes.
I hear sometimes from people." One day I hope I will have your level of skill". When that day comes, I hope they continue to improve even after reaching that level. Cause I am in my eyes a Pokemon LVL 10. Not close to Level 100!

The longer you wait between training, The slower the process of learning is and more you perhaps forget. Same goes for learning through study anatomy or other art forms. The more you practice, the more you need less worry about how your characters basic structure will look, and you can rather focus on the texture of hair or drapery of cloth etc;
Don't let yourself be pleased with what little you have learned in art. There is so much more out there to explore. The joy of learning is waiting for you. There is no greater high then to evolve and see yourself slowly but surely see how it pays off.
Be hard on yourself. Take the tough love of constructive critique. In a fight-club sense; Your not as great as you think you are.
If you cannot take constructive critique and give up when teacher tells you that you need to improve.
Then you perhaps should just do art as a hobby.

Again, Sorry for bad grammar :P

Jag typ ville inte varit min egen bästis xD i would be to hars on the other me then..

Men... It's still not sufficcent!
Ahmen, Suicide Girls löser alla mina tutt-problem <3
