Can people actually change other peoples minds? I know it may seem like a simple question to answer, but it really isn't. I mean if they can, then how? If people can't formulate that form of opinion in the beginning, then what's to say that they really understand the concept at all? Of course this is a very simple way of looking at things; of course people understand, otherwise we wouldn't be where we are today. If we couldn't form simple concepts of connotation, saying "That means that", then language as we know it would not exist today, and our society would most likely be much less advanced.
But still, I'm curious. Just how much do people really understand what I mean? Are my ideas so abstract and perhaps even illogical that people don't genuinely understand? I realise now that there are so, so, so very many question marks in this entry, but that's what my life is, one big, giant question mark. My point with all of these hypothetical questions is to express my doubt in the very existance of true compassion, and what humans define as "love". This is a very cynical view, and indeed quite hypocritical remark as I myself feel that I have what I would define as unconditional love. You may be thinking, "Hey, wait, you sound like a complete asshole; how the hell can you begin to understand what caring is?"
Well, the thing is, I don't. That's the whole point; I don't see the purpose in caring, because caring to me is basically an action which shows that you have enough understanding of a situation to be mindful of it and maybe even somewhat empathic about the person whom is in that certain situation, but not enough will to actually get off of your ass and do something about it. I don't say I care. I say that I love, and wish that the world would do the same. The fact is, that I can't do jack shit about the suffering in the world today. I mean look at me. I'm 5'6, fluctuating between 85 and 91 kilos, a student, living in an incomeless environment, unless you count EMA as an income, in which case you are completely retarded and should have a retake on your definition and understanding of the word income, and living in a world so full of incompassion that it makes me sick.
Frankly, I am surprised that the world is the way it is today. Or perhaps not so much suprised as I am disappointed. Disappointed in the fact that 40% of the world is "owned" (and I use this term in the lightest of senses, because how the hell can someone own something which they havn't even created? It's a ridiculous notion which only a mind as egocentric and narcissistic as the one which our species has developed can develop) by 1% of its population. Disappointed that while rusty, heatless, insubstantial huts are all some people have to live in, right next door is a fenced off condo building complete with balconies, which of course have the appropriate pond built into them, along with the tennis court and swimming pool which exist below for the residents of said condos to use when they need a break from their difficult living in the heights above the poor and starving.
Of course, it makes sense. Why help others when you can help yourself? I mean, why bothering bettering the living standards of others when you can safely live in your apartment and sip on your aged red wine or cognac of choice and make decisions which cut others off from well-being but benefit you; I mean, you don't have to actually see the people suffering, so hey, it's all ok.
Except it isn't. And you need to grow the f*ck up and take care of those around you. Zeitgeist had a point which suits well: People which brain disorders make better stockbrokers, due to the fact that the decisions they make are cruel, inconsiderate, and detrimental towards society at general. The fact remains, that those who have the capacity to change, don't understand. It's simple, and I suggest that it's a disorder. Because such indifference, such pure mercilessness towards those weaker and helpless, can not be something which is done with a healthy and functioning brain, with a true understanding of the suffering of the people whom are put through a nigh-literal hell for your own personal gain.
