"Democracy is the worst possible form of government, apart from all the others that have been tried"
"Majority rules are flawed, and the most _efficient_ form of government is without a doubt a dictatorship. Find someone good, honest and clever, and hand them all the power.
You'll have a country that can work miracles, and all good things will come of it.
Sadly, the most efficient form of government, is also the most prone to corruption. No one is perfect, after all.
But back on the stupid people point. We could quite easily have a 'voting test'. We could quite easily structure it such that the minority of 'smart people' are the only people who get to vote.
It would be much much harder to stop that turning into oppression and social stratification within a generation though, as the 'voting class' would use their power to oppress the 'non voting'.
That's why you cannot apply arbitrary defintions of who's 'allowed' to vote, or not.
You cannot say 'being a BNP support, disqualifies you from the same basic rights as everyone in the country', because the whole point is that they're a basic right - everyone gets to express an opinion, everyone gets to vote.
And then the guy with the best hair wins, and we can all praise democracy at work."
