Hi everyone, I've finally been able to get a hold of a computer with internet and will hopefully be able to use it later on as well. I haven't got my memory stick on me so I can't upload any of my own pics just yet; I just thought I'd give you all a progress report.
So after a 20 hour train journey I've arrived at Boya Foreign Language School in Dongguan, Guandong province. The school seems great (so far) and I had my first lesson today. I'm teaching kindergarten, 4 'small' classes aged 2-3 yrs, 4 'middle' classes aged 4-5 yrs and 4 'big' classes aged 5-6 yrs. Every class has between 30-40 students, so I'll have my hands thoroughly filled once I get going.
My accommodations: I live in a nice enough apartment together with my boss, her assistant, her daughter and her mother! We have no western toilet, only a squat, and I've got internet but no computer in my room. My room is quite nice though, I have a working AC that I set to 20-22 degrees during the night because otherwise it just gets too warm in there!
Oh, and I don't have a matress in my bed. They've given me a duvet to sleep on instead but it's still very hard. Well, we'll move in a week so hopefully I'll get a proper bed then.
People really stare at you here if you're a westerner. I thought it was bad in Beijing, but that's NOTHING compared to Dongguan. I honestly think that they've never seen a ging before. On occation you feel like a celeb but mostly just like a freak.
I've got to go now, got some lesson planning to do.

What a shame you don´t have a proper bed to sleep in. When and where are you moving? Are you still going to stay with your boss and her? relatives?

Yes, but I've realized why now: my boss' mother is sleeping on it, on the floor. And if an elderly woman is sleeping on it I won't bitch about it. I'm getting by :)

But I didn't mind the hard beds we had back at uni; they're meant to improve posture. But right now I literally sleep on a plank of wood :P Squats are uncomfortable but you get used to them..
