It all started with me meeting up with one of my friends at the central on the 16th, where we were gonna do a quick interview with a girl who did a school project on jrock, apparently she thought me and my friend were interesting because of how old we are ( a whole 21 and 22 years..) We lol:ed at two of the questions; “Would you be willing to pay the artist to get some private time?” and “if you could do anything with the artist, what would you do?” We answered very maturely.
After said interview we took of towards the harbor where we were meeting up with two other friends, we now had a wonderful 18 hours before we would arrive in Finland. The first thing we did after dumping our stuff in the cabin was to visit the tax free shop. We found some interesting alcohol that was supposed to taste like blueberry, later we found out it tasted like blueberry without sugar, it was sour as hell >< And we bought tons of chocolate, much of which was consumed before it was time for bed. After the tax free craze it was time to go on a dinner hunt. We poor youngsters were sad to find out there is no such thing as a low budget restaurant on these ships…
Being a Friday night the people on the boat got completely wasted in no time and people were swaying and lying in the corridors all over the place, something that was rather scary so we made the decision to retreat to the cabin, which turned out to be as cold as an igloo. That was what gave birth to the brilliant idea of turning the shower on the hottest it can be and then open the bathroom door. The cabin got steamy and hot like a sauna very fast, actually the heat never left so when we went to bed the heat was almost suffocating >_> then, in the middle of the night we wake up to the wonderful tunes of 'bye bye bye' We're all confused and wonders who can't shut of their alarm! We have no idea what time it is and wonder if we overslept. But it showed it was the cursed intern phone that had some sort of alarm function that went on at 4am, of course you want to be awake by that time >>
After getting about five hours of sleep we woke up about 8am and had now arrived in Finland. We now had to pack everything once again, and we sure did a god job of leaving the cabin in a complete mess, something that would occur in all rooms we lived in during the trip. The cabins were so damn small we really had to climb over each other when we got dressed and packed… the luggage took up half of the space.
We were on a rather tight schedule as we wanted to arrive at Tsukicon as early as possible so we could get the signing tickets. We got off the boat at 10am and were a bit stressed as we knew the convention opened about that time and the harbor was no where near. Therefore we decided to grab a cab, then we wouldn’t have to bother with understanding the local traffic. When we arrived there were already lots of people outside queuing and it took a while and some things lost in translation before we got the hang of the queuing system. And the first thing we see as we round the house is some of the Vistlip members taking a smoke casually in a small staircase. We were rather amazed ‘cause if this had been in Sweden little fangirls would have squealed their lungs out and tried to get to the members but here no one paid them any attention. Once we got in we were extremely confused and stressed. Me and my female friend dumped our bags with the boys and went straight for the merch, hoping tickets would still be available. I wanted to go on Vistlip’s sign session so badly and knew it would begin in just about 10 min, I don’t think I’ve ever been so stressed. But we made it in time and we both got tickets for Screw and I also got one for Vistlip so I dashed of towards the sign queue. I was unbelievably happy as I was standing in front of them, and I took the chance to ask Rui in japanese if he could sign my photo of him with happy birthday as, well, it was my birthday. He smiled the cutest smile and hoped I would have a great day and signed with “happy birthday my dear”. I was nearly dying of happiness; they were all so happy and polite. Then it was time for me to find my friends, who had gone missing in the myriad of people. Once united we soon split up again as the boy’s weren’t interested in Q&A seeing as they wouldn’t understand anything anyway. But as my friend is quite good at Japanese and I know some too we decided to stay and see what we could figure out from the conversations, if nothing else it’s always a chance to get to see a band of pretty young men up close :P. I can’t say I like Aicle’s music but the members were quite charming, and that damn question about the color of their underwear, is it just me or is that question always asked, is it really that interesting xD? And lol at the member who answered he didn’t wear any, that sure pleased the crowd.
After paying a visit to some friends who worked at the convention and buying some flyers we all took off to our hotel, which was conveniently close located to Gloria. It was just that we couldn’t check in until 4pm and we had to be outside Gloria at 3.45 to get a queue number, so once again we dumped our luggage on the poor boys (actually we’re not that mean, but they didn’t care much about being in time for the concerts so they didn’t mind).
It took a while for us to understand the queue system but anyhow we got number 45, not too shabby. Then it was 2 hours of waiting in the cold rain, and power two the two girls behind us who only wore t-shirts and short skirts, I was freezing my ass of and I had a freaking parkas.
Then we finally got inside and went to look at the merch, and I saw they sold their live dvd, but 30euro for only 12 songs, nawh that was just too expensive for me.
So we went into the concert hall and ended up on the fourth row somewhere between the middle and the right. It was two hours before the live would start but yet people were pressing like crazy in the first rows. When will people learn that it is NOT by any means a smart thing to do. You will be exhausted before it has even started and then you will faint (which of course happened here as well). So to save energy me and my friend sits down, and to my big surprise and happiness I find out I’m sitting next to my msn buddy from Germany! We got really excited, seeing as it was her birthday as well, we’re unrelated twins, same age and everything. But after a little while people started to complain about us sitting down as they could stumble on us, but please people, if you weren’t so busy pushing you wouldn’t fall on us But as the place started to get even more crowded we eventually had to get up.
Now the tension was really building up and it was dawning on me for real that I was finally gonna see Screw live, something that I was sure I would never have the chance to do, easily the best birthday present ever!
Screw’s music was playing in the background as we waited for the boys to claim the stage and then finally the lights got turned of and the crowd went crazy. And well, I had high hopes on this group to be a great live act, and now I can say I was right. They’re very talented entertainers who know how to please the crowd, be it with their great skills as musicians, their crowd teasing or the fan service. One thing is for sure, you won’t be bored for a second.
The pressure at the front, plus my wild rocking out, earned me a spot in the third row, a little closer to Byou than earlier. Byou sure is entertaining to watch, damn the man is intensive! I was rather hot and bothered after ‘Gather roses,’ it was indeed a sexy performance. Most of my memories from Screw’s concert are a complete blur do to an overdose of happiness and excitement, so if you want something detailed I suggest you go read burn1ngcha0s great review. It was a shame I couldn’t see much of Manabu, save for the time when he came to the middle or the right side of the stage, which as my confused memory recalls wasn’t too often. But then again you can’t really complain when you get entertained by Byou and Kazuki and occasionally Yuuto. I was thrilled they played a lot of their older songs, I do like X-rays, but prefer older material. Hearing ‘Death’s door’ and ‘Vegas’ made my night. I only had two complaints, it was so crowded in the first three rows you could barely move, which meant it was hard to rock out the way I use to, and second, during one song my lip piercing got stuck in the hair of the girl in front of me. It was completely stuck and she thought I pulled her hair so she tried to jerk herself free, I was terrified ‘cause it hurt like hell, but eventually I managed to shout in her air that the piercing was stuck so she stood still so I could screw it off.
And yeah, how could I talk about the concert without mentioning the oh so glorious fan service? When I saw Yuuto snuggling up to Kazuki my thirst thought was, oh they’re probably just teasing us.. but wait, that’s a little too close for teasing, omg they’re gonna kiss, they ARE kissing! Wait, did I see a tongue, they’re not kissing it’s a damn make out session for gods sake and they’re not stopping! I went into crazy fangirl mode after that and me and my friend probably made some poor person death with our screaming. I still can’t believe I witnessed that, it was too hot to be true seriously O.o. For the rest of the live I was completely over hyped, and when it was time for encore everybody were shouting and growling like crazy, and after a little while the members came out again, ready to drive us wild for a little longer. When they walked of the stage for the final time I felt like I could almost cry, it was just such a mix of emotions. I was happy I had finally gotten to see one of my favorite bands live, but at the same time it was over and I don’t know for how long before I can see them again.
When I got out getting my jacket I was a little bummed I hadn’t been able to catch any of the things the band had thrown to the audience, that would’ve been such a cool memory. But then one of my male friends jumps out and shouts happy birthday, holding a Screw poster and their tour towel and my heart just melts, I seriously have the cutest most carrying friends ever. But apparently it was more as my friend who had handed me the presents told me the third companion had something else for me. And a little while later he emerges with nothing else than Byou’s towel, I died a little inside. He said he was convinced it would make a good present so he had to catch it for me and I just threw myself at him hugging him to death, I love him so much. And yeah I got seriously teary-eyed and my female friend thought the image of me half crying holding my precious towel clutched to my chest along with the tour towel and poster was just too cute haha. And just as a random ramble, damn Yuuto looked too perfect in those stage clothes! Even one of my male friends thought he was hot like a host or something lol.
When we had gotten our jackets we rushed back to the hotel to take a quick shower and then heading back to the nightclub. I got so laughed at because of my extreme fear of destroying the ticket bracelet while showering that I showered with half my arm and hand covered by a plastic bag, very beautiful…
We got in the night club around 11.45pm and Sisen was playing, and man I’m such a fan of his, I think he’s really cool and I love the way he performs and DJ. Even my club-music hating friend fell in love with him and she ended up dancing like crazy.
Then Gothika entered the stage and one of my male friends is a big fan so he had given me really high expectations and they sure delivered, and they never left the stage! They said this is our last song like eight times, that must be a record or something haha. Then Sisen started playing again and the friend who is a Gothika fan went on a hunt for the members as he wanted them to sign his stomach while we took a picture, and he succeeded.
We went to dance to Sisen’s music some more but then about 3am we decided to leave, me and my female friend were gonna be at the convention early to secure sign tickets for Dio so getting at least some sleep sounded like a good idea. Though it certainly took a while for sleep to kick in, much because someone thought three persons sleeping in a bed designed for one would be cozy, it was not.. And I was still high on energy from what was easily the best birthday of my life.
We woke up about 7.30 the next day and man we were like the living dead. But somehow we managed to make some breakfast and getting dressed.
We arrived at the convention about 10 min before opening and were surprised to see how many people were already queuing, and we got a little worried we might not get a ticker after all. As we got inside the line to merch table was long indeed but we did get the ticket to our big happiness. The bad thing was almost all Dio’s merch was sold out when we got there, the only thing left were some stickers and some other already signed thing. At least they could’ve had as much merch as there were sign tickets…
Then we started to wait for Dio’s Q&A to begin, and just as was the case with Aicle’s Q&A the volume of too many people being at same place completely drowned the sound from the artists, only making it possible to hear a few things here and there.
At the sign session me and my friend were in really high spirit as it was already a whole year since we last saw Dio. My friend managed to completely confuse Mikaru when she asked if he remembered the Swedes from the London gig. The thing was we gave them quite unusaual gifts, which she tried to explain, but the poor guy didn’t understand at all, but she sure made him laugh.
Happy with the sign session we rushed down to participate in Screw’s Q&A. As the members entered the small stage the crowd once again went wild. We couldn’t make much out from this one either but it was the one we understood the best anyhow. And yeah they were totally hot so I had to stop myself from drooling. At the question about the members favorite type of girl we started laughing as Byou answered he’s a pervert, the funny thing being there was a girl at the convention cosplaying as a cat girl, and well, she was practically naked, so we joked about how we should introduce her to Byou, he would surely be pleased.
Now it was time for the much anticipated sign session and I was so nervous! But they were all very cute and polite and I’m so happy to have met them like this, Manabu saying mata ne really warmed my heart, making me hope one day I will see them again for sure! I regretted not saying anything to Yuuto though, but seeing how nervous I was I probably would’ve just stumbled over words anyway.
We went down to the main hall were we met up with boys who had also gotten something signed by Dio, one of the things being a roll of toilet paper, the band and the crew had been crying with laughter as he had put it on the sign table, completely epic.
Now we headed back towards our hotel, stopping to get a very early dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Seeing as we would be occupied inside Gloria for hours to come it was best to save up all energy we could so we went back to the hotel to get some sleep before the concerts. We choose to skip Aicle as none of us are interested in their music.
When we arrived at Gloria I met up with one of the friends working at the convention and heard we made it just in time for Vistlip who had played one song before we arrived.
I was thrilled to see these guys live, I’m not a huge fan of their music but the guys are just so funny and charming its killing me, and they did sound pretty kickass live I must admit. Their crazy sense of humor is just love, like when Tomo screamed something and rushed towards Umi, scaring the poor guy, or Toyha’s little talk session, the whole “ping pong” was like, wtf, touching each others nipples ?? xD And yeah, there was fan service in that gig as well, Tomo sharing a little kiss on the mouth with Rui. With other words, I can’t wait to see Vistlip again!
But now it was time for the band that was much of the reason we went to Tsukicon, Dio. My three friends were hyped to max and we had decided nothing would stop us from going completely wild. In one way it was kinda nice you were allowed to bring water bottles into the concert hall, where as in Sweden most of the time you are not. Me and my friend drank like crazy, which was probably a good thing. We were in third row once again but this time I could see the stage a little better and the girl in front of me was really nice through out the whole concert, moving to the side as much as possible so that I could get a better view. Me and my friend was practically jumping on the spot in excitement when the lights finally dimmed and the members appeared on stage one by one. Their look was kinda different from the one they had when we saw them in London but this one fitted them just fine as well. And is it just me or doesn’t Mikaru’s outfit look much like an outfit Ruki from Gazette wore last year? As the really heavy songs played we went absolutely wild, and we noticed there was a LOT of space behind us, this was probably because of two things, most people that night seemed to have come for Aicle and Vistlip, as a friend who stood at the back said a lot of people left after Vistlip. The second reason was probably that people didn’t dare to be near us, I suppose it looked like we were possessed or something xD I’m surprised I could move my neck the next day, something neither of us could do after the gig in London.
And my god does Mikaru have a sexy voice, it’s so wonderfully dark, and now he made it even darker on purpose. The concert went on for much longer than I had expected, a good 1h and 45min and all the members, except for Denka of course, came to the front of the stage. I must say I miss Erina, even though his guitar could be heard on playback it wasn’t the same thing as hearing that kickass guitar live.. When the band returned for the encore Mikaru was short of a shirt, to me and my friend’s big delight. He also did a lot of stage diving, and landed on top of me and my friend twice. When they left the stage for the final time I really savored the moment, as the band is taking a break you don’t know when you’ll see them again. All four of us were completely drained, but because we didn’t get squished like we got at Screw we both looked and felt unusually fresh. The four of us was standing in the middle of the floor shouting like Vikings, still living on the hype from the gig, obviously we weren’t completely dead yet. Then I went out into the lobby together with some Finnish girls, all of us had caught Mikaru’s scarf and now we were gonna split it sisterly. This was also something that would never happen in Sweden, there the girls would’ve probably been fighting like cats to be the only owner of the scarf.
Now all sign sessions and concerts were finished and we felt a little sad, we would really miss the bands, but the whole weekend had been absolutely amazing and the trip to Finland had been so worth it.
We were in need of food now and went to the nearest pizzeria, judging from the pictures there Tom Cruise himself had graced the place with his presence. We ordered a pizza with kebab, but as we got back at the hotel we noticed the pizza contained pretty much anything BUT kebab.
And that was our last night at the hotel, I just recently found out Sisen stayed there as well, too bad we never ran into him. The room was, just like the cabin, in a complete mess when we left the next day, I don’t know how we do it…
It had been an epic weekend, something we will never forget, and if we can we will definitely go again next year!
