The Eastern Water skink(Eulamprus quoyii), pictured here at Waterfall Gully, SA.
These skinks grow to around 30cm, and love nothing more then basking around on the edge of rocks, in the dirt, or even on the walkway of bridges like the one photographed here.
These inquisitive looking reptiles feast upon many insects, worms and invertebrates which inhabit the surrounding water bodies, however these sometimes cheeky reptiles have been known to venture into your backyard to feast on what has been left behind by pets.
These skinks will mate during spring, producing up to 9 offspring which the female gives birth too. She then leaves the young to fend for themselves.
