Skrev en lång rant på min facebooksida innan och är för trött för att översätta den, men tycker den är ganska relevant.
Something that is really important for me as a cosplayer is to make sure everyone feels welcomed into the community. I think that this community - at least in Sweden - is so small as it is that you can't afford to deny anyone to join that really wants to.
That is why I have spent countless of ours helping out newcomers. That is why I have styled wigs, drawn patterns and given advice all for free to people new to the community. Because they will be next generation's cosplayers.
And I think every cosplayer that has been in 'the business' long enough to call themself a veteran should try to share their knowledge if asked to. I don't believe in "trade secrets" because cosplayers are so dependant on each other as it is, we follow tutorials and guides all the time written by someone better than us. We work together because we all have a crazy passion for cosplay.
Of course there is drama, but in the end don't we all love the same thing?
My point is; if I help someone fix a prop or style a wig, maybe that small part of the costume will give a tiny extra boost of confidence to that cosplayer, making him or her even more eager to cosplay more. And then I can sleep really good.
