In other words, you are indeed facing the risk of "losing touch" by swimming around with media to express yourself, moving further away from that which you mean to express. Yet that's also the case with flaming screenshots, pictures made in paint or photos of cats. Indeed, that's so far away from reality that the sad fucks caught up in it might even think it is real, only for fun, "constant entertainment for our restless minds". As long as something can be deemed pretentious it's still close enough to reality to touch it, if only by negative criticism reacting to the way it seemingly tries to "lose touch", or a melancholic sense of impending loss on behalf of the artist (why he tries to fixate it in his art).
