Chapter 1
- Are you done, Heather? We have to go now.
- Almost, big sis! I just have to find Teddy first.
My sister Heather. She wouldn't go anywhere without Teddy, her best friend.
We've been packing for days now and I haven't been able to sleep since mom and dad agreed to the assignment.
A few weeks ago, I was checking my Facebook and I realised that all my friends where going away for almost the whole summer. And to be honest, I got jealous. Mostly because me and my family never do anything during the breaks. We don't even spend time together. But I also got jealous because I have never been outside Stoneford, my hometown. Sad but true. And I've always wanted to see more of this world we call ours. I want to go on an adventure and finally get some action into my totally boring life.
That's when a saw my chance to change my summer.
An ad from a company called Mann Co. I didn't know what to expect from a company with a slogan saying "We sell products and get in fights", but it sure as sugar made me interested enough to keep on reading the ad. It said:
"Are you tired of doing nothing while you have nothing to do? Than this is the time to at least do something... I think.
Sign up to the Mann Co. apprentice summer program! You'll learn:
- How to 'protect' yourself.
- How to wear hats.
- And the true meaning of teamwork.
Contact me, Mr. Mundy, or our company's very own Miss Pauling.
See ya', mate!
- Mr. Mundy"
This sounded interesting and kind of like an adventure. And I would go away from Stoneford during the summer! But when I tried to prevail my mother, she said:
- No.
- Please mom! I maybe never get an opportunity like this ever again. I want to go!
- Juliet! I said no, and that is that! You are not going.
- Do you have a reason why I shouldn't go?
- Well.. um.. I have never heard of a company called Mann Co. I don't know what they're doing for money.
- Well, the slogan said that they sell stuff.
- That could mean anything, young lady!
- It DOES mean that they SELL STUFF.
I saw the unpleasant lock on her face and I decided to try to end the argument with a winning move. So I asked her to at least check it out before she decides. And as I've already predicted, she agreed on my suggestion.
So, my name is Juliet. I'm sixteen and afraid of fish. I'm a Capricorn, my favorite color is blue and I love when something is happening. I live in boring, ol' Stoneford with my mom, my dad and my little sister, Heather. She's thirteen. We are the two remaining Wilein children. Our big brother, Eliot, died in a car accident when I was ten. And that's maybe why she is afraid of letting me and Heather go away without her. But I know she has nothing to be worried about.
- I found him! I found Teddy, Juliet!
- Okay, get in the car. I'm just going to grab the last bag.
As I said, I know she has nothing to be worried about. After all, I have I good feeling about this. I can almost touch the adventures now.
