Chapter 2 - Welcome to Badlands
There it was. Our destination. The RED base.
Our car pulled up on the drive way and in front of the entrance there where a woman in a purple dress. Her hair was in a knot at the back of her head and she wearing pointy glasses. She approached as soon as the car stopped.
- Evening, ladies. I'm Miss Pauling and I assume that you're our new apprentices, Juliet and Heather.
She turned to our parents and said:
- And I assume that you are the guardians of these lovely girls. Am I right?
- Um.. Yes! I'm Mr. Wilein, and this is my wife, Joyce.
- It's very nice to meet you both, and we are very happy to have you here at Mann Co.! And I hope your daughters are going to have a great time with us. Why don't you follow us inside? I'm sure you want to meet the rest of the crew, Miss Pauling said with a smile.
We walked into a big hall filled with old weapons and portraits of what I assume where pretty important people within the company. It was like going on a family trip to a museum with Miss Pauling as a guide.
- Here we have the founder of the Mann Co., Blutarch and Redmond Mann. This photo is from 1850. They passed away 1972. And this is Saxton Hale, President and CEO of our company.
She told every story about every painting and every object. And I'm going to be honest, it was fun the first hour...
I had just stopped listening to her when a man in a red uniform and a war helmet walked into the room, approaching our little sightseeing group.
- Oh! Evening Soldier! miss Pauling said while greeting the man salute.
- Stand easy, Miss Pauling. The Scout told me about the new recruits who is supposed to join us this very day. Have you seen any yelps running around the facility, woman?
- Um, excuse me, sir? my mom said. Hi, I'm Mrs. Wilein! The apprentices you are looking for are right her, our daughters.
The man turned to take a look at me and my sister, but as soon as he laid eyes on us, he looked surprised and immediately turned to Miss Pauling to whisper:
- Miss.. Can I speak to you in privacy for a moment?
They left us and went to the other side of the room. I wondered what he could possibly want to tell her. And why did he look at us like that? I just got to find out.
- Juliet, Heather wants to go and look at something over there, mom said and pointed towards an other part of the room. Do you want come with us?
That's when I saw my chance.
- Um.. I would rather go... Over there! And look at.. that, I tried
- Juliet, you could've just said you don't want to go with us.
- Okay, mom, I said with a guilty smile. My plan worked. Now I just had to sneak near enough to hear what the Soldier wanted.
- Miss, we can't receive those recruits to the team. We have to find others.
- Why? What's wrong with those girls?
- That is what's wrong. Girls! We can't put those mandie pandie dress wearing little baby girl on the battlefield. They can not fight. That I am sure of.
Battlefield?
- Soldier! That's sexisms! The gender doesn't matter. And I can feel the adventurous spirit in those two. More spirit than I have ever felt in one my brothers. I can assure you that this is NOT a mistake.
- Okay, I will trust you this one time, cupcake. But when those little "spirits" turns in to Medic, I'm not the one how calls and tells their parents what happened.
[säger på en gång att jag ska försöka lägga upp ett nytt kapitel varje helgdag och varannan vardag beroende på hur mycket läxor och prov jag har i veckan]
