The last song faded out and I said my good byes to the woman I had been dancing
with. As I turned around in search of Joey in this compact mass of people, I saw
her wave but I didn't return it.
After pushing through the throng of people leaving the dance floor and consequently
the closing night club I finally found him. Where I had left him. Slouching over one of
the little tables in close proximity to the bar. The only difference from when I left, a
couple of minutes ago, being the stack of glasses scattered over the table.
"Where's Dennis and the others?" I asked as I patted his shoulder. He turned slightly and
glanced up at me.
"'ey went to Paul's afterparty." He slurred and then put his head back on the table.
"And you want to go home?" I asked, put his arm around my shoulder and started
to lift him. He didn't answer, he just nodded, so I put my arm around his waist and
started to lead him out after the mob of people leaving.
"Why you never dance with me?" He muttered, still slurring, before we had gotten
anywhere though.
"Because you've never asked."

"Daaad, can I have this Star Wars action figure and the spider man action figure and that..."
I patted her head and mentioned for her to put it back on the shelf.
"Now now, Honey, we are here to buy a birthday present for your friend. When you've
eaten your vegetables and kept your room clean for a week you can get a new toy.
That's the way the world works." Gillian turned her head and looked up at the person
behind me studying the barbie dolls across the isle from us.
"Daddy?!" She asked and Joey looked down on her.
"Listen to Dad, I have to work to get expensive dresses...." She puffed up her cheeks
and pouted before she replied.
"Daaaa~ddy, I know thaa~t, I wanted you to only cook little trees for a week*. I really want
the star wars figure...." She looked at the doll longingly while she put it back on the shelf,
then she looked back up at us again.
"I think Sam wants some kites, I'll go and see if I can find....." She rushed off before she had
even finished the sentence. I chuckled and gave Joey a glance, he had a crease between
his brows so I asked him.
"So, Sweetie, what's troubling you?" He let go of my hand and picked up a Barbie doll.
"Maybe having two guys as parents isn't good for her...I mean...she hates dresses and
only wants to play with toys for boys." I snickered and pushed my glasses higher up on
my nose. He is really silly sometimes. But that's one of the things I like about him.
"Well, neither of us is reeking with manliness." I replied and he puffed his cheeks and
pouted.
"She might be overcompensating...maybe we should get her a brother?" He muttered
just as Jun rounded the corner. When he saw us his face lit up.
"Oy, there you are, Mommy can I have this?" He asked while holding up an adult
sized tutu he must have found in the dressup section. I guffawed and ruffled Joeys hair
while he put back the Barbie doll on the shelf.
"See, she already has a brother."
