Take an open ring, (this will be your first "side ring" and will be referred to as such for the rest of this tutorial, and will be shown in black) and thread it through the center skipped ring (red) from back to front. Pull the center ring using your open ring so it nestles between the top and bottom ring in the next base unit, then thread your open ring through the top ring and close. The center ring and top ring of the next base unit on the chain are now connected together by the side ring.
