Usually wears/Looks like: Usually he's just dressed in worn out jeans and some kind of shirt. And sometimes when he can't be bothered to get dressed he usually just wear some kind of kimono. But at work he's always spotless and everything is in great condition.

Personality: When working he's easy going, charming, calm and just about everything a good doctor should be. He's ambitious in everything he does and always works to be the very best.
But at home he's the opposite. He's usually drunk and gloomy. The alcohol makes him numb which is the main reason he drinks. He can hide it well when he's getting drunk, and it's no one but his closest friend who can see it. When drunk he's quite mellow as well and hardly looses his temper. It has happened, but it's so rare you can count it on one hand.
If he's home and not drunk (i.e. preparing for work or being on call) he's twitchy. that's when his thoughts catches up with him and he feels everything he's trying to suppress while drinking. That's when he can lose his temper and he's nervous and slightly paranoid as well.
Background: He grew up with his mom, dad and younger sister in a regular suburb house. From a young age he wanted to be a doctor and so studied very hard to manage to make his dream come true. And even though he studied hard he got many friends and managed to balance studies with a social life very well. Throughout all of his youth as well as his time at Uni he never touched alcohol as he didn't like the effects it had on people (one of his friends growing up had an alcoholic dad and he couldn't stand the way that man acted so him and his friend swore off alcohol) His parents fully supported him and were so proud when he got into medschool on the first try when he was 18 and he graduated with honors some years later. He then got a job at a university hospital some cities away and moved to live his dream. He specialized in Emergency care and thus works at the ER as he finds himself most at home there. He advanced quickly at work and got a lot of responsibility as his managers saw that he was good at what he did.
One night he was the one in charge while the shift manager was on call. There had been a huge accident and so it was up to Martin to distribute the workload and to call in extra staff. He doesn't remember everything that happened, but he made some choices due to the stress and pressure that lead to some patients dying. No one blamed Martin as they all knew he did the best he could. But Martin blamed himself. When he got off his shift that morning he went to the store and for the first time in his life he bought alcohol. He then went home and drank till he passed out. He felt awful the next day, but he realized that when he drank he wouldn't remember, and he wouldn't think. So he just kept drinking.
He still loves his job and would do nothing to compromise it, so he never drinks when he's supposed to work - only on his time off.
This has lead to him ignoring many things around him, his apartment among others. The whole place is a mess with things everywhere so you can hardly see the floors or furniture. He blames it on a stressful job, but in reality he keeps the mess cause he doesn't really dare to clean up feeling like he's hiding himself there as well. but sometimes it gets too much for him and he gets into an almost manic cleaning spree and cleans everything to a spotless state. Though this only happen about once every second or third month.
