"We're programmed to think that we're smarter than our horses and that our decisions are always the right ones... for both of us.
Over the past several years, it has come up to me that, perhaps, in order for our horses to truly look to us as a leader, there needs to be some give and take in the relationships we have with them.
In other words, perhaps we need to give them half a chance from time to time, so we can show them that their judgement in certain situations can, in fact, be trusted.
At the very last, we can communicate to them that we are willing to meet them halfway - even in situations where their judgement may leave a little to be desired."
