Kenji Koiso, an eleventh grade math genius, agrees to take a summer job at the Nagano hometown of his crush, Natuski. When he arrives, he finds that her family have reunited to celebrate the 90th birthday of the family matriarch. His job is to pretend to be Natsuki's fiancé. Meanwhile, his attempt to solve a mathematical equation causes a parallel world's collision with earth.
A student tries to fix a problem he accidentally caused in OZ, a digital world, while pretending to be the fiancé of his friend at her grandmother's 90th birthday.
Summer Wars coasts like a Masterpiece. The opening sequence is awesome, and the lead characters, Kenji and Natsuki are highly likable. Directed by, Mamoru Hosoda, the same director that made The Girl Who Lept Through Time Summer Wars is a story about a social network site causing the world to end!
The most notable part of this movie besides the fact that they constantly play Coy Coy a Japenese card game throughout is the fact that every character has an Avatar making each character more unique in a duplicate kind of way. This is great except they should have brought this in to the movie earlier because it's one of the best ideas going on. This is a big problem in my opinion. More Avatar scenes would have made the movie more fun and given it more depth, but you really don't see them until it's time to fight.
All the critics are saying that Summer Wars lacks a magic but I still haven't heard a good answers as to why. Well I'll tell you what it is. The beginning is too long. That's it. From the second half of the movie on it's great. Everything that makes an Anime great is there; great, unique characters, emotional daydreaming, teamwork, action. Before that... well...the intro is awesome but than I started to get board.
Either way this small roller coaster ride is worth it! It's most defiantly fun to watch in the end!
This movie have an original point of Wreck It Ralp 2.
It's the kind of fun and quirky film that you don't see very often in art houses this time of year.
