26 Dec 2017 Editor Guidelines adds vertical column guides behind your code. This is useful if you are trying to tabulate columns of data or if you want to ensure that your lines don't extend beyond a certain length. You specify where the guides go and what color they should be. Note: This version is for Visual Studio
It also works with almost any version of Visual Studio, you just need to change the "8.0" in the registry key to the appropriate version number for your version of Visual Studio. The guide line You can also have the guide in multiple columns by listing more than one number after the color specifier: RGB(230,230,230), 4, 80.
15 Jun 2011 Here's the Registry information (which can be saved to a .reg and merged with your Registry) that will do this for Visual Studio 2008: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00. [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftVisualStudio9.0Text Editor]. "Guides"="RGB(128,0,0) 70". Just changing the Registry
31 Jul 2009 Nothing new here, but I was talking about it with a colleague today who wasn't aware of the feature, so if you haven't seen it before you might find this use
15 Nov 2004 Update 12/2/2004: Uploaded an image from Visual Studio 2005 Beta. Note the image below shows guidelines at column numbers 5 and 30, but the regkey value is RBG(255,0,0), 4, 29. The Guideline column numbers are 0-based in the registry. Update 11/29/2004: I've corrected the two (embarrassing)
7 Jul 2006 To enable this feature, set: [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftVisualStudio8.0Text Editor] "Guides"="RGB(192,192,192) 110". The values passed to the RGB function let you specify the color of the line, and the number following tells Visual Studio at what column to display it. The settings above
26 Feb 2010 Column guides for Visual Studio 2010: An extension. I've authored this simple Visual Studio 2010 extension that re-introduces column guidelines within the editor surface. There is a single string key that contains an RGB color definition, followed by any number of guides (integer column counts).
30 Oct 2006 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00. [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftVisualStudio8.0Text Editor]. "Guides"="RGB(128, 128, 128) 100". [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftVisualStudio7.1Text Editor]. "Guides"="RGB(128, 128, 128) 100"`
30 Nov 2016 Note: You still need to download and install this extension before the registry edits will do anything. For Visual Studio 2010 the key is: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftVisualStudio10.0Text Editor. Add a string (REG_SZ) value called "Guides" and change its data to (e.g.) "RGB(255,0,0) 4, 29".
