When news magnate James Reid dies, his son Britt and chauffeur Kato, resentful of Reid's slights, vandalize a graveyard statue. By chance, they also rescue a couple from thugs, but TV reports the vandalism, not the heroism. Britt, thinking he's a genius while relying on Kato's mechanical and kung-fu skills, decides to be a superhero, the Green Hornet, and use his father's paper to play up the bad-guy elements. The reporting on the Hornet upsets LA's DA, who's up for reelection, and the city's real crime boss, Chudnofsky. Plus, how long will Kato suffer in silence, when he has all the skill? Competition for the affection of Britt's assistant, Lenore, brings things to a head.
When the publisher of "The Daily Sentinel" dies, his son Britt Reid inherits his newspaper. The idle Britt is a playboy that parties all the time with women and hates his father but he is forced to become the new publisher. He also meets his father's mechanic Kato, who is a skilled fighter of kung fu, and they decide to fight crime for fun wearing masks. Britt uses "The Daily Sentinel" to promote "The Green Hornet" and his sidekick, attracting the attention of the kingpin Chudnofsky, Now the Green Hornet is chased not only by the police, but also by Chudnofsky that is hunting him down.
Over the past year or so, prior to The Green Hornet's release, we have seen Seth Rogen decrease in size. No longer is he the lovable chubby loser from Knocked Up - he went on to play slim-to-chubby loser in Funny People - he is now slim Seth Rogen, Action Star! Okay, I think I'm going a bit overboard. He isn't exactly Chris Hemsworth in Thor, but fair play to him, at least he's trying. Having just read back what I've just typed, it perhaps may come across that I hate Seth Rogen. I really don't, I'm usually the only one that defends him. I loved Knocked Up and Superbad, and Pineapple Express was very amusing, even if he was overshadowed by James Franco. It's just a bit irritating that, even though he's seemingly pushing for different roles and showing the dedication to the cause by slimming down, in The Green Hornet, underneath it all, he's still the same slow-witted, gravelly-voiced nerd that he always plays.
Britt Reid is a playboy millionaire's son who spends his time throwing wild parties and showing girls around his father's car collection. He is haunted by a childhood memory in which his father (now publisher of newspaper The Daily Sentinel) James (Tom Wilkinson), believing him to be causing fights at school, tore the head off his favourite superhero toy, and he now believes that his father is ashamed and despises him. When James is killed by an allergic reaction to a wasp sting, Britt finds himself alone and befriends family mechanic and coffee-maker Kato (Jay Chou), and upon agreeing that they both hated Britt's father, get drunk and go to cut the head off a recently erected statue of him. Whilst there, they witness a mugging in which the two beat the crap out of the thugs (mainly Kato). Excited and liberated, Britt convinces Kato that the two should be crime-fighters.
So far, so amusing. The main problem with the film begins when it introduces the main bad guy Benjamin Chudnovsky (Christoph Waltz). Nicolas Cage had earlier been attached to play Chudnovsky, attracted to the fact that Michel Gondry was directing. But he pulled out, stating that he didn't want to play a one-dimensional bad-guy. And he was right. With every fully-fleshed superhero comes the need for an enticing bad guy. But he is a bland thug, slowly taking control of the city and the crystal-meth trade, without quoting a memorable line, having a memorable scene, or having a particular goal. It's a tragic waste of the talents of Waltz, who mesmerised everybody with his portrayal of The Jew Hunter in Inglourious Basterds.
Where is triumphs, however, is when Britt and Kato are together. Chou and Rogen have plenty of chemistry, and Chou shows he has plenty of comedy chops. Rogen, although playing a very similar character to the one's he's played before, still raises a smile as the clueless, child- like and naive Britt, stumbling through his crime-fighting while Kato does all the work. Only when the thinly-drawn Lenore Case (Cameron Diaz) arrives on the scene as a budding criminology graduate, the two takes an interest in her and are then ultimately pitted against each other. Apart from the obvious physical aspects, it's not really apparent why the two would take such an interest.
It's a very post-modern take on the superhero myth that seems to increasingly popular these days. Only it's been done a hell of a lot better in previous films. Watchmen, based on a unbelievably good graphic novel by Alan Moore, was intelligent, exciting, multi-layered, and had fully realised characters. And last year's Kick-Ass was much funnier in the comedy department, and explored the vigilante angle much better. Plus it had Hit-Girl, which every film misses. The Green Hornet's only goal seems to be to entertain and amuse, which it quite often fails to do.
A worthy attempt, but with the high standards set by other more successful films, The Green Hornet gets somewhat lost in the pile. I don't know if a sequel is planned, or if the film made enough money for it to be greenlit, but if so I will be interested to watch where they go with it, and hope the most important aspect of the film is developed better - the story!

Super hero millionaires are quite a usual site for us who live on this planet. Tony Stark who owns the Stark Industries and an iron suit known as Iron Man is a good example. Go a bit further you will meet Bruce Wayne who owns the Wayne Industries and wears the black rubber mask and goes by the nick name Bat Man.
But 'Green Hornet' is someone different even though he owns a millionaire business empire and some cool gadgets. He is just a regular guy who thought acting a vigilante is cool but actually no body without his side kick!!
His name is Britt Reid and one morning all of a sudden he finds out that his father died leaving his millionaire news paper business, which puts a load of weight and attention on his shoulders. Not knowing where to start his new life while trying to be responsible he meets his father's coffee maker and helper Kato. Impressed by Kato's martial art abilities and discovering few secrets of his father's garage, Britt jumps in to unexpected trouble which ends in their favor and putting them all over the news by next day. However masked and unidentified by the public and with a little boost given intentionally using their own news paper, they start to call themselves as Green Hornet and his sidekick. Soon they start to jam up the city streets and fighting various crime gangs making the real bad ass crime load Chudnofsky a very unhappy man.
What's interesting about 'Green Hornet' is that it's not a serious movie. Something of the Kiss Ass nature it just keep on delivering unrealistic stunts, gadgets and action sequences over and over just for the plain viewing pleasure. Filled with funny dialogues and internal rivalry between Britt and Kato over the hot and sexy newly appointed secretary Lenore Case 'Green Hornet' is fun to watch. Even the blood thirsty villain character is unique and will make you funny over all. Sometimes you might actually feel sorry for his because no one seems to be seeing him as a threat or bad enough!!
Apart from the breathtaking load of vintage and modern super cars on Britt's father garage, the movie offers few some real cool action sequences. Towards the end of the movie the action become tense (As usual) and more cars starts to find its path to the grave either by exploding, run over or shot.
I don't want to question anything right now (but) what I really don't get is if Kato has some superhero ability after all or is it just that's how he is. And even seems like Britt gets a bit of it at the end and I'm a little confused.
.errr
any way this is a cool and funny movie with lot of explosions and guns fired which ends with a room for a sequel. Nothing really extraordinary. Watch it and forget it.

While this latest Rogen-penned iteration is a game try, it feels a bit like he's trying to make a volume out of a footnote.
It's best to let Rogen himself speak about this subject. From WorstPreviews.com: Seth Rogen, writer and co-star of the upcoming The Green Hornet, told Sci Fi Wire that the film will possess elements of both comedy and action. "To me, the two aren't mutually exclusive," said Rogen. "You can have a big action epic with a lot of funny parts." Green Hornet is a big-screen adaptation of the superhero franchise, which was adapted as a popular 1960s television series and was inspired by the original radio program created in the 1930s. Hornet follows the adventures of Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father's crusading newspaper, the Daily Sentinel. By night he is a masked hero, fighting crime with his sidekick, Kato, who has incredible martial-arts skills. Rogen, whose film projects to date have been primarily comedic in nature, said that the forthcoming update will evoke other action films that feature an undercurrent of humor. "I've seen the early 'Indiana Jones' movies in theaters, and they kill," Rogen said. "There's laughs throughout the whole thing, and it doesn't feel like a comedy per se. It just feels like something that's trying to solicit reactions from the audience, and we think of movies like 'True Lies' and stuff like that. That's more kind of what we're going for with this." Director Michel Gondry also has said this about the film's tone: "It's an action movie with some comedy in it. The action will be fast and furious and the comedy will come from the dynamic between Kato and Britt Reid." Reportedly, he stepped down to work on a superhero spoof comedy starring Jack Black. It's called "Live With Me" by the Rolling Stones. a5c7b9f00b
