In a post-apocalyptic wasteland in 1997, a comic book fan adopts the persona of his favourite hero to save his enthusiastic friend and fight a tyrannical overlord.
In Wasteland's vast and barren deserts of scrap and debris in a post-apocalyptic 1997 where water is the new currency, the reclusive orphaned scavenger and die-hard comic aficionado known only as the Kid, barely manages to survive, trading relics of a bygone time for food and water. Living constantly under the sadistic monarch Zeus' heavy thumb, the Kid who struggles to lay low, is utterly unprepared for the unforeseen encounter--let alone, friendship--with the lively and free-spirited, Apple, who can't take no for an answer. However, only when Apple falls into Zeus' hands will Kid realise that his beloved Turbo Rider's newly-found high-tech justice-enforcing gear is meant for a true hero sworn to defend those in need. Will the skittish Kid step up to truly become the Turbo Kid?
All due respect to the film makers for the effort but this film is no more than a B-grade - if not C.. - Mad Max clone but laughably bad at times and predictable throughout that made me wanna turn it off a few times, it was cringe-worthy.. The actors did a good job and played their roles with heart but the screenplay and dialogue were pretty bad.. All-in-all not a movie worth watching unless it's past midnight and you can't sleep and you come across this - oddly relatively high-scored on IMDb - piece of trash and half-way through it you realize what a waste of time that was.. Anyway, as I said, all due respect to the people involved in the production as I now it's not easy to make a film..
I am talking nostalgia, a high you might not know what to do with. I saw this movie months ago and still gush over it. Perhaps it takes a certain type to feel as strongly as I do about this film. If you take yourself seriously, maybe it's not for you. It is quite the fix for those who grow up during a time when the world felt like one big laser tag arena. But it's so much more than that. Apple is one of the best character designs I have seen in a while. Her makeup and hair and wardrobe are simple but create this incredible visual. The action is phenomenal. Japanese-style violence. Not crossing the line, though, in my opinion. I tell people to watch this movie and no one I know has actually done so. It's okay. I can't wait. We can keep this for ourselves until everyone realizes how amazing it is and ruins it-- Boondock Saints...ahem. It's also the only electronic soundtrack I have ever fully purchased. There is a great little musical motif throughout, a simple series of tones which sort of remind me of Close Encounters--and some spring birds who hang around my house. I am saving the second viewing of this for a special time. It's worth cultivating. It's worth watching, you might say.
Turbo Kid is a wild enough burlesque that the audience can ignore a few things that don’t seem quite right.... Harder to ignore is that Turbo Kid, which was first made as a short, struggles to sustain its energy for 89 minutes of evisceration.
