A bordo di una splendida decapottabile, Roland e Vanessa raggiungono un angolo di paradiso, una baia nel sud della Francia, dove trascorreranno il tempo che serve a lui per rimettersi a scrivere. Nel caffè del vedovo Michel, il romanziere in crisi lascia che a scorrere siano fiumi di alcool, mentre l'inchiostro fatica ad uscire. Ma il blocco non è solo suo: la moglie Nessa, autoreclusasi nella stanza d'hotel con vista sul mare, sembra incapace di appassionarsi ad alcunché, marito compreso. La scoperta di un buco nel muro, che le fornisce l'accesso alla vista della giovane coppia della stanza accanto, in luna di miele, la smuove dal torpore, ma risveglia in lei pericolose pulsioni.
