14 Jun 2007 So the difference between your little dial on the dash and my lever on the floor would be electronics. The floor lever is a manual lever that physically shifts the transfer case, while the dial sends an electric signal to achieve the same results. With the lever on the floor I am still able to "shift on the fly".

Conventionally, "shift-on-the-fly" part-time transfer cases utilize automatic locking hubs having manual, electrical or fluid (i.e. vacuum) actuated front axle disconnect systems.
29 Dec 2011 The MSOS has the "man handle" and manual hubs (get out to engage). For the ESOF system - In auto, the front drivetrain is disengaged at the hub, and at the transfer case. When you select 4wd on the ESOF, it engages the transfer case (no man handle needed) and the hubs. If you have the hubs in "lock"
A transfer case is a part of the drivetrain of four-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive, and other multiple powered axle vehicles. The transfer case transfers power from the transmission to the front and rear axles by means of drive shafts.
29 Mar 2017 This is accomplished by simply moving the gear selector to the desired positions once the appropriate speed and gear requirements are met, refer to “Shifting Procedure – Manually Shifted Transfer Case" in this section for further information. The 4H and 4L positions are intended for loose, slippery road
Manual Shift On-the-Fly (MSOF) transfer cases are controlled with a lever on the driver's side floor of most vehicles. These transfer cases have two automatic sealed front axle hubs or two manual front axle hub selectors.
Note: Some vehicles may be equipped with wheel ornaments that cover the 4x4 manual hub lock. Electronic Shift-On-the-Fly (ESOF) 4WD system If the transfer case does not, or only partially moves to the desired position, perform a shift with the transmission in N (Neutral) and the vehicle rolling at a speed below 3 mph
Manual Shift On-the-Fly transfer cases have a selector lever on the driver's side floor transmission hump and may also have either two sealed automatic front axle locking hubs or two manual front axle hub selectors of "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" or "FREE". To engage the four-wheel-drive
