In flashback, Integra is seen assuming leadership of the Hellsing organization as she resolves a conflict with her uncle with the help of the vampire Alucard. In present day, Alucard goes on a mission to the town of Cheddar to silence a vampiric priest who has been killing townspeople, and in the process must also present the young police girl Seras Victoria with the choice to either die or become a vampire. Also, Alucard battles a Vatican priest named Alexander Anderson after they are both sent to kill the same vampire in Northern Ireland.
Working on a tip from Iscariot, Alucard, Seras, and a mercenary team hired by Hellsing go to Rio de Janeiro to find and eliminate Millenium. When they arrive, they are confronted by a S.W.A.T. team sent by Tubalcain Alhambra, a member of Millenium.
First off, I just finished this anime. It started off feeling all kinds of cool but ended with only some kinds of cool remaining. The art, animation and action sequences were top notch, and easily a 10/10. The characters were all more or less bad a**, but that, is sadly where it stops. The anime makes you expect more, and it does have lot of potential for in depth characterization and exploration of myriad themes. But somewhere along the line, it fell of the legendary wagon, and ended up on an above average awesome train. I don't feel like it gave closure, and some of the extreme gruesome scenes were done with no real value to it. (which p****d me straight off) Overall, you do like the anime a lot somehow, and it is more than just entertaining or plain enjoyable. I do recommend this to fellow anime fans, who primarily love action anime with stylish coatings, a decent story and characters who could have been so so much more.

Hellsing Ultimate (aka Hellsing Ultimate OVA) is executed with extreme artistry and aesthetics, wonderful dialog, characters, mythos, animation, music and plot. It's very dark, very occult and extremely violent, with that strange anime cute-humor thrown in in small portions just to keep you going "WTF"?! Not a let-down for anyone who enjoys the genre, knows a bit about the occult and folk-fairy-horror like Lovecraft, Poe and even ancient Greek tales.
Make no mistake, this is one of the absolute pearls of the genre - by genre I mean both Vampire and Anime. The main character Alucard is impressively bonkers and evil, while all the time being a tool of those who fight evil - keeps you guessing what his purpose is. All supporting cast from heroes to villains are wonderfully stereotyped in that Robert Rodriguez way that keeps it cool rather than campy.
The artistic style is perhaps a matter of taste, but by no means cheap, bad, rushed or amateurish. The characters have long, slender bodies, snapshot stances and CGI is used occasionally to great effect. I really liked the exaggerated lines and perspectives, andthe "speed lines" used in battle.
f I have any negative remarks, then maybe I could do without the cute interludes and the extremely long (yet by no means irrelevant) dialogs. The show could have been compressed a little, but I enjoyed every second none the less.
The OVAs from part 6 onwards were also released on Blu-Ray. In October 2010, a Japanese box-set was released which also includes the OVAs 1 through 5 in 1080p. What makes this box interesting are the completely revised "Recut" versions of part 1 through 4. They really worked hard and with a lot of sensitivity in order to make the quality of the animations of the first episodes just as good as the quality of the later ones. The color as well as the image brilliance was noticeably improved. Backgrounds, landscapes, eyes and glasses have much more detail, light, and reflection. Also, a few mistakes of the facial movements were undone (especially those of Alucard in OVA 1 and 3 but also those of Luke Valentine in OVA 2). All in all, the first four parts now have a completely different atmosphere to them and now look great in comparison to the more recent episodes. a5c7b9f00b
