The TCX Advanced Pro 1 is an ideal bike for the rider who lives on either his road or mountain bike but wants to combine the skills, speed and endurance characteristics of the two. The Advanced Pro is where both mountain bikers and road riders converge to do the same type of riding.
So what makes the TCX Advanced Pro 1 so special?
At its heart is the Advanced-grade full carbon frame. It is a modified monocoque construction; which means the one-piece front triangle is then attached to the one-piece rear triangle. Minimising the join in this way creates a lighter and stiffer frameset. A high-performance resin bonds the fibres together and allows Giant to use less resin a enhancing the key properties of the carbon frame. All this ensures every pedal stroke delivers maximum forward motion.
But is it smooth and comfortable to ride?
Yes, it is. Comfort is attained through 3 key areas:
The carbon frame absorbs and dissipates harsh impacts.
Giant is innovative D-Fuse post is designed to flex providing more comfort. The lack of vibrations and impacts through the lower back and pelvis are greatly minimised.
Tubeless tyres have been used in mountain biking for years and has recently cemented itself in road and cyclocross (CX). The big deal about tubeless is riders do not need a tube inside the tyre (use a sealant instead), the tyre can be run at lower pressures without significantly effecting rolling resistance whilst also providing better puncture protection.
With the evolution of drive trains in recent years, the world of CX also gets a specific drive train. In this case, it is SRAM Force CX 1. The Force CX1 groupset has been tailored specifically for the demands of CX racing. One standout feature is the clutch rear derailleur, which stops excessive chain movement and quietens the drive train.
Another thoroughly modern feature is the utilisation of a single chain ring on the front. This simplifies the drivetrain (no front derailleur/shifter/cables) and makes maintenance much easier too. Factory fitted with a chainguide, chain mishaps are also reduced due to a special tooth design, called X-Sync on the chainring. These stop the chain from coming off due to impacts.
Giant CXR 1 wheels roll on precision stainless steel hubs and so don't need frequent maintenance; and will ensure they roll smooth in all weather conditions.
If you are comparing sizes with an all-around road bike like the Giant TCR, the equivalent size frame will probably be appropriate, with 2 differences; the bars will be slightly higher (for a slightly more relaxed riding position) and they will be a close to you.
