When a group of hard-working guys find out they've fallen victim to their wealthy employer's Ponzi scheme, they conspire to rob his high-rise residence.
Josh Kovaks is the manager of a high-rise condominium in New York. He is close to all the tenants, especially financier Arthur Shaw. One day Shaw is arrested by the FBI for fraud. Josh thinks it's a misunderstanding that can be resolved, but later he learns that the employees' pension fund - which he asked Shaw to handle - is gone. When one of the employees tries to kill himself, Josh's views of Shaw change. He goes to see him and loses his temper, and his job. The FBI agent in charge tells him that Shaw might walk, and recovering the pension fund is unlikely. She tells him that it's been rumored that Shaw has $20 million lying around if he needs it in a hurry. Josh thinks he knows where it is, so with two other fired employees and an evicted tenant, they set out to get into Shaw's penthouse to get the money. But they realize they need the assistance of someone who knows how to steal, so Josh asks an old acquaintance named Slide who he knows is a thief to help them.
No matter how old you are, An Action comedy film is always worth wasting your time seeing. whether it's a plot you've lost track of while contemplating how a hero can escape an seemingly inescapable situation, or maybe how the common male likes to talk about his balls or look at boobs, You're bound to enjoy it. As for this film, it was directed by Brett Ratner, and most people know him for his work on the rush hour movies with Jackie Chan's non-stop fists of fury action and Chris tucker's Rapid-fire use of the tongue, cracking jokes at every turn. it's the kind of film that you don't (and Shouldn't) scrutinize like it's a blockbuster. Just shut your brain off, grab some popcorn, and a Pepsi and get lost in the action.
Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) is an apartment building manager who seems to have a decent life working for Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) And also trusting in him to invest his pension and life savings. As it turns out, Mr. Shaw is taken down by the FBI, and it's revealed all the people who invested their money in his business, have lost it. When one of his co-workers attempts suicide, it drives Kovacs to a plan - Break into Mr. shaw's private suite, and steal 20 million dollars.
Bottom line, if you're looking for a mindless, funny action flick, this one's for you.
The trailers of Tower Heist already leave the fact that there is nothing new in its story or execution clear, but I had the hope that its solid actors and competent director would make it at least entertaining. Unfortunately, they could not do too much, because they worked with a very poorly written screenplay full of pre-fabricated characters, clichés of the "heist cinema" and unforgivable logical fails. In summary, I did not find Tower Heist funny or exciting at all.
To start with, Tower Heist is developed with an alarming slowness, specially during the first half, because it takes itself too much time to establish the situation, introduce the characters and even create an emotional atmosphere to justify the heist. However, even dedicating half of the film to accommodate the elements and present the abilities from every accomplice, the screenplay makes too much traps in order to make us believe that a group of inept men (and a woman) would be able to carry out a robbery of such an audacity. Maybe, if Tower Heist had been a slapstick comedy such as Rush Hour, or a satirical farce such as A Fish Called Wanda, we could have accepted its many exaggerated or improbable elements. But since the film insists on a more or less formal and realistic tone, it ends up stumbling in a lot of occasions, and it was impossible for me to take it seriously as a "heist movie", or excuse the foolishness from the screenplay on the altars of the (non-existent) humor.
So, in conclusion, Tower Heist is a pathetic comedy in which I really wasted my time. In other words, don't make the same mistake I did, and don't invest your time and your money in this piece of crap.
Defiantly graceless, Brett Ratner deals in loudness, haplessness, obviousness, and, certainly, crudeness, reminding you of his directorial presence with such inclusions as a scolded kid who tells his disciplinarian to "suck it."
A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to its investors from their own money or the money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from any actual profit earned by the individual or organization running the operation. The Ponzi scheme usually entices new investors by offering higher returns than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. Perpetuation of the high returns requires an ever-increasing flow of money from new investors to keep the scheme going. The system is destined to collapse because the earnings, if any, are less than the payments to investors. Usually, the scheme is interrupted by legal authorities before it collapses because a Ponzi scheme is suspected or because the promoter is selling unregistered securities. As more investors become involved, the likelihood of the scheme coming to the attention of authorities increases. The scheme is named after Charles Ponzi who became notorious for using the technique in 1920. Ponzi did not invent the scheme (for example, Charles Dickens's 1857 novel Little Dorrit described such a scheme) but his operation took in so much money that it was the first to become known throughout the United States. Ponzi's original scheme was based on the arbitrage of international reply coupons for postage stamps; however, he soon diverted investors' money to make payments to earlier investors and himself. a5c7b9f00b
