There was so much going on, so many new approaches to the genre, I knew within a few chapters that I was in for a rideApr 07, 2015 mark monday rated it really liked it Shelves: fantastickal and the award for Most Improved Second Book in a Series goes toView Product [ x ] close Chainfire (Sword of Truth Series #9) With Wizard's First Rule and seven subsequent masterpieces, Terry Goodkind has thrilled readers worldwide with Neil Walsh is the Reviews Editor for the SF Siteit is the reader who must build the world because Erikson doesn't deliver it as a ready-made, easily digested package.more flag 63 likesLike see review View all 7 comments If only they'd heeded my warningThis stupendously written storyline has a denouement that was probably among the most emotionally powerful ones Ive ever read in any bookThe dragon leads the Silanda into a fire warren, and Kulp, Heboric, Baudin, and Felisin fall or leap to safety in the mundane world near Raraku as the ship moves between warrens, on fireDukier and the Chain of Dogs story arc was interesting and tragic, but it was a bit slow paced for my liking, especially in the first half of the bookLooking for more suggestions? Try these pages:Even from the outset, it seemed that Coltaine was set up to fail with the rebellion army outnumbering his army significantly and with no forthcoming assistance or reliefWalsh, Neil (2000)Unprecedented in its size and savagery, it will embroil in one of the bloodiest conflicts it has ever known: a maelstrom of fanaticism and bloodlust that will shape destinies and give birth to legendsDestination, Rates & Speeds Stock Image 10All Rights ReservedKalam, once a member of the Claw, the Empire's loyal assassins, has sworn to kill the evil Laseen, Empress of the Malazan EmpireCategory: (G) General (US: Trade)I just don't particularly appreciate itA desperate last stand in their own dimension saved the race, at the cost ofBut don't worryHowever, as the plot threads of this novel come together, it seems clear that Erikson is, in fact, weaving a truly epic tapestry in which everything interrelates, but on such a grand scale that we seem at first glance to be reading two almost-entirely-separate stories.Certainly, a large number of our characters from the first novel are completely ignored and a host of others introduced, but it seems clear that this is all coming together in the form of an epic fantasy of what will end up being thousands and thousands of pages, covering at least two separate continents (this impression is only reinforced by peeking ahead at the dust jacket of the next novel in the series).So, what do we have here?
