That's right, a guide has been posted at the total war site to help you get the most out of your game graphics. I haven't had a chance to read it myself, but I'm sure I will be using it when I've finished installing it. Check it out here.
When you hit recommended settings for graphics, there are only 4 possibilities. Ultra, high, medium or low.

21 Nov 2015 Click "The Creativ Assembly" > Empire > scripts. Click the "preferences.script" find gfx_video_memory 0 change to gfx_video_memory 536870912. Save preferences.script. Done. Settings for High Graphics and Very High should now be unlocked in your game. This also works for Napoleon: Total War.
