The R380 gearbox in my 300 tdi Defender / Discovery has recently started 'blocking' when I shift from 5th to 4th, to get 4th gear I have to nudge 3rd then it will drop into 4th no problem. Why? My TD5 manual disco 2 has developed a gear selector problem which I do not believe to be the usual bias plate/springs, these I replaced and set up some So I think it could be in the gearbox selectors? any ideas greatfully received and also information about whether I can take the top off the box to sort it

5 May 2011 A week or two back I noticed that the gear lever wasn't easily going all the way to the left (while in neutral) in order to select 1st. So I would move the lever left, then back to the middle and then second move left it would move fully to the left. Can't quite explain but it was as if there was an obstacle in the way

30 May 2007 My TD5 gearbox is difficult on gear selection, sometimes no bother but more often than not its difficult to get into 1st gear and reverse gear, 2nd a I have only recently purchased the discovery (2002 td5 manual) but it has recently been serviced and the gearbox was apparently topped up.
