A 19th century Western. Chon Wang is a clumsy Imperial Guard to the Emperor of China. When Princess Pei Pei is kidnapped from the Forbidden City, Wang feels personally responsible and insists on joining the guards sent to rescue the Princess, who has been whisked away to the United States. In Nevada and hot on the trail of the kidnappers, Wang is separated from the group and soon finds himself an unlikely partner with Roy O'Bannon, a small time robber with delusions of grandeur. Together, the two forge onto one misadventure after another.
A Chinese man travels to the Wild West to rescue a kidnapped princess. After teaming up with a train robber, the unlikely duo takes on a Chinese traitor and his corrupt boss.
Firstly this is a family type movie, as such it wins out. However the matial arts action is slight - if you hanker for that go out and rent "Fist of Legend" ( Jet Lee ) Much of the humour works - it falls flat big time sometimes - but it makes up for it easily. That Ally Mc Beal actress - Lucy Lui? So attractive! Jackies english is still poor - mind you I don't get paid a couple of mill for my Chinese - so there you go. I still have my eye out for a great American Kung Fu movie - "Enter the Dragon" stands forever but that was 1971 - it seems the only way in now is via making enough people laugh. 6.8 out of 10
Jackie Chan is very cool. Nobody's disputing that. But this movie is a must-see because of Owen Wilson. He is funny, clever and charming. Very good form. A great movie for his fans, and people who haven't seen him before will like him, too.
This one looks like a sure bet for seven weeks (at least) of audience good fortune.
