If you know the clutch is good, then difficulty or a complete inability to shift means very likely that your transmission transaxle assembly has gone bad. Sometimes this is caused by bad synchronizers in the assembly and not the gears themselves. However, in most cases a transmission rebuild is required to fix the problem.
I have three transmissions to use but don't want to take it apart to look at the gears and wear components(not yet at least). I'd like to install the one that is the best out of the three. Any way to tell which one is the best? I've tried shifting through the gears and I can't feel any nicks or having issues shifting into
Hey guys, I am new to this forum and had a quick question. I am thinking about performing a transmission/transfer case swap from the TH400/Q-trac to.

20 Jul 2009 I was once told by a so called mechanic the way to test a manual transmission in the junkyard was to throw it into gear. I was told to put it in every gear. If it lock into every gear chances are that it is good. I have a problem with this theory. My 1988 Mustang GT refuses to go into any gear but fourth when on.
7 Dec 2016 Burning smell: The smell of something burning is never a good sign, and it could indicate an overheating transmission due to a lack of transmission fluid There will likely be other signs to help you know when your manual transmission is going out, but the list above has some common ones to watch out for
Transmission repair can be expensive. If your transmission is acting up, check out these warning signs or schedule a service.
Put it in reverse to see if the output shaft counterspins. You cannot test the clutch while off the car. It has to be mounted to the flywheel, and the flywheel needs to be mounted to the engine. You can bench test the hydraulics to ensure they work. Other than that, you have rely on doing a good job and putting it
I'm in the process of doing an engine swap for my truck and I found a used transmission on my local classifieds and I was wondering if there's any way to test that could be a good way of telling if it's free and not seized up but you will never know for sure unless you either take it apart or put it in the car and test it on the
15 May 2007 Listen carefully to the sounds the transmission makes are you rotate the input shaft. Excessive grinding, noisy bearings, or overly loud gear meshing are red flags. Finally, grab the output shaft and pull/push it to check for excessive play. If no obvious problems are noted, then you likely have a good junkyard
