Average Brilliance: A Story of Educational Failure and Success and the Keys to Making a Difference

Average Brilliance is the true story of a gifted young man, the author's son, who was exiled for years to life in a school where his talents and the diversity of his heritage were sufficiently different as to make him a target of ridicule. Far from defending him and supporting him in his educational journey, his teachers were the primary offenders. In spite of all obstacles, Ignacio maintained a strong and encouraging relationship with his father and his father's family, developing ties that would sustain him through the darkest of times. His father's hands tied, Ignacio, with the support and encouragement of his sister Clarice, his adopted twin, became his own advocate when his age and abilities offered sufficient impetus for him to take a stand in his own defense and change his life. This story is the story of an underdog, a forgotten young man who saves himself from an educational abyss and then recreates himself in a new environment by the grace of a God who has not forgotten him and a family who encourages him throughout. Average Brilliance is evidence for the importance of a strong relationship between parents and schools and the indispensability of good teachers in the life of a child. Author, Dr. D. Lyman, a former educator turned health professional and researcher evaluates where one educational establishment failed his son and another helped pave his road to success.
