Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes in order to win her heart.
Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is an unemployed 23-year-old hipster in a going-nowhere garage rock band who is dating an underage 17-year-old high school girl, Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). He is completely self-absorbed and oblivious anyone else's needs but his own until one day Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) becomes the object of his obsessions for basically no reason. Ramona is a shrill, unlikable, damaged hipster who is only likable to Scott. No one knows what her past is, but Scott will find out very soon as he tries to make Ramona his new girlfriend, cheating on his devastated underage girlfriend. Before Scott can begin dating Ramona, he must prove himself by defeating the league of her seven exes who control her love life. They will do anything to get rid of and destroy any new boyfriend Ramona may consider. If Scott wants to find true love with Ramona, he must defeat all seven, faster than you can say "career ender"
OK, I have read the Scott Pilgrim books, I love them, they have a ton of heart and a lot to offer. I read the books because i saw that Edgar Wright was directing this, and I loved some of his other films, (Shaun, Hot Fuzz) I really thought he could make this work.
For the first half of the movie the story stays surprisingly close to the books. I was very hopeful, however soon after the eternal sadness the movie started to drift, and the battles became closer together, leaving us no time to appreciate what Scott is fighting for. He loves Ramona, which is what the entire series is about. In the movie we seem to loose track of that.
This movie has little heart and thats the biggest complaint I have. The movie is hilarious and the fight scenes are great, the characters just aren't developed enough for me to care.
Overall go see this movie. It is worth it. But then afterwards go out and read the books. They're much better. Much funnier. and have so much more heart than the movie.
Wow this was sooo cool and I think Scott is a hero to all people who have been called dweebs or dorks before. I mean he beats up all these tough ex-boyfriends with all these super-cool moves in order to win this girl, even though she doesn't really do anything or care about anything except coloring her hair... but that's how girls are I think.
And this was such a deep movie I mean look how he even learned such a great lesson at the end of the movie when he apologized for cheating on both of his girlfriends and he got 400 points right away and he even got a self-respect sword! It was so inspiring that I think I will visit the last girlfriend I had 10 years ago in high school and tell her I'm sorry I kissed her best friend from band camp.
Update: Well that didn't go so well. She flew up 50 feet into the air and did a back-flip and landed her knee in my groin, and my balls exploded into 100 coins. She flipped me the finger, collected the coins and shut the door in my face.
Oh well, at least I can always play some more Street Fighter and Nintendo.
The film is repetitive, top-heavy: Wright blows his wad too early. But a different lead might have kept you laughing and engaged.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is based on the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Canadian cartoonist Bryan Lee O'Malley. Six Scott Pilgrim books were first published between 2004 and 2010. The movie's title comes from the second volume of the series but is an adaptation of all six volumes. It's called "I Heard Ramona Sing" by Frank Black. "Invaders Must Die" by The Prodigy

Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning are writing the music for rival bands Crash and the Boys. There is an article about the music here. The time span can be surmised by the number of changes in Ramona's hair colour, which she states that she changes "every week and a half". Scott meets Ramona during the last few days of her "pink hair" cycle, before she goes blue for most of the film. She then change's her hair green at the end. The "blue hair" cycle was the only full cycle shown, so the time span of the film is between one and a half to two weeks (three at the most). Another hint to the time span is how Ramona kept mentioning how her relationships also only lasted a week and a half. As such, it can be surmised that a week and a half passed when she breaks up with Scott and returns to Gideon (hence the green hair in her next scene) Based on the landmarks present within the film (Honest Ed's, Lee's Palace, Casa Loma), the film primarily takes place in and around the Annex neighborhood in the central part of the city. Honest Ed's is a popular department store in the area and is visible in the background of many shots. There really is a Pizza Pizza restaurant across the street (though the interiors are different than seen in the film). Lee's Palace is a popular live music venue and it is located about two and half blocks east of Honest Ed's. Casa Loma is an actual castle located about three kilometers (about two miles) north of both landmarks and can quickly accessed by either subway or bus. There really is a steep staircase that must be climbed to reach Casa Loma from the south. The Annex is also home to The Bloor Cinema, a repertory cinema where Edgar Wright hosted screenings during production of the film. The school used in the film is St. Michael's College School, located at Bathurst St. and St. Clair Avenue West. Sometimes, but rarely in the amount seen in the film.
