Erik Reinert Why Rich Countries Pdf Download ->->->-> http://tinyurl.com/y98qzp6b
What is less known is the divisions within capitalism, that there are two main canons of literatureHow rich countries got rich, and why poor countries stay poor is not an easy bookflag 1 likeLike see review Firt conference 28 Nov 2009 on financial crisis& I am one of the consultant and will contribute to influence th forthcoming africas own model& But any support is welcomeMeanwhile these models destroy developing countries as there are not ready for rivalry with advanced oneI am of the opinion that the main explanation for this is that the rich world today has confused the reasons for economic growth - innovation, new knowledge and new technology - with free trade, which is just means transport of goods across borders"But the point is not to substitute one set of dogmas for another
Realizing that I was almost completely unfamiliar with the huge strand of economic thought that Erik Reinert essentially presents here was quite embarrasing, but at least I'm a little more well-informed now.In this book, Reinert sets out with the naive question that spurred his own interest in political economy as an adolescent: why is the real wage of a bus driver in Frankfurt 16 times higher than the real wage of an equally efficient bus driver in Nigeria? In addressing this issue the author delivers a stinging critique of neo-classical economics (as well as Marxist economic theory, which he sees as just another offspring of Ricardian trade theory)It is a critique from within capitalism, from the other canon, rather than from the leftReinert argues that the strategies that the West used to industrialize must be emulated by poor countriesThey echo those which were formulated as policies by every country that developed its industry and accumulated wealthThis author and economist is basically showing us that we have the methods to help poor countries and people to live a richer life (not talking consuming like a crazy person, but you know EATING, having clean WATER, living a SAFE life, you know that thing Another book for the universityEnter into world competition can kill a nation's premature industry and force it to specialize in raw materials production and the lower value chainThis is completely ignored these days.more flag 1 likeLike see review Reinerts claims poor country's concentrating their production on industries with diminishing returns to scale will lead them to become more inefficient the more they invest while the opposite thing will happen to the rich countries with their primarily increasing returns to scale industriesI have rarely read a non-fiction book that has been so lucid and informative as this one
History is not important according to mainstream economics."Instead, he (re-)introduces what he labels "the Other Canon", an approach to economic theory focusing on production, innovation and synergies, and which applies a method of analysis based more on observing history than on making reality fit into neat mathematical models20 October 2009 Yves Ekou Amazo,PhReply Pingback: How To Acheive Sucess Information Leave a Reply Cancel reply Enter your comment hereflag 1 likeLike see review
(LogOut/Change) You are commenting using your Facebook accountIn the post WW2 period this understanding formed the basis of what was known as "Developmental Economics" - in the post Bretton Woods period all that experience became marginalised not least through the efforts of those Institutions that were at the centre of the Washington Consensus (World Bank, IMF and WTO).Some of the other issues that Reinart covers include the Millennium Development Goals promoted by those such as Jeffrey Sachs (along with the ever present and somewhat vacuous Bono)Each realised that selling finished products was more worthwhile than selling raw materials, and used tariffs and sanctioned monopolies to protect their early industriesI must admit, reading this book was a total game-changer for me personally, not just in terms of my view on economics, but also with regards to my perpective on development, international politics and the issue of "rogue states" as well.more flag 9 likesLike see review 87c6bb4a5b
