Reunited and aided by the alien warrior Jaylah, Kirk and crew must fight to survive and take on this deadly menace with a strong hatred for the Federation. Will they be able to destroy the new danger before it's too late?I haven't seen many Star Trek movies, and I haven't seen the TV shows either. I saw Star Trek Into Darkness (which was good), but this one was disappointing. There were cool action sequences, but the plot developments and the villains weren't very intriguing. I thought the opening maybe 30 minutes were boring and uninteresting, and the best thing about the movie was the triumphant, yet short, ending. The effects were good and the acting was good, but I think the movie moved way too slowly and just wasn't engaging enough for the audience. I liked how they used the music to defeat the villains- that was a great scene- but it was probably one of the only scenes that left me satisfied out of the whole movie. I don't really have much to say about Star Trek Beyond- it wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either.The producers should be embarrassed to invoke the name of Gene Roddenberry. Plot -- zero. Character development -- zero. Social message: zero. (Saying "unity" a few times ... please.) Sound and fury signifying nothing -- absolute. The producers gave free rein to the adolescents in charge of darkness and noise, they gave short shrift to what must be a talented writing staff (judging by the 3 or 4 good lines), they spent a lot of money on "special" effects, and they totally wasted a great deal of acting talent. It left us feeling a little resentful, and wistful for what might have been. Or should have been.
A slight detail would be that James T. destroyed the flagship of the (thousands of planets) United Federation of Planets and not another word is said about it. Maybe because he gets to spend 60 interminable seconds riding around on a motorcycle! Really?? Did it not matter because there was no plot anyway? Was there an adult in charge of any part of this? Anyone who'd read anything of Roddenberry's? Seen any of the earlier movies?
The nicest thing we can say about this sorry excuse for a Star Trek movie is that it was disappointing.The third instalment of the re-booted Star Trek franchise gets safely through its voyage, offering a strong returning cast and a familiar, if slightly tweaked mix of effects-heavy space action, cheeky humour and philosophical musing.Source. In story terms, it seems most likely that Carol Marcus has left the Enterprise for unknown reasons prior to the events of Beyond. The adversary Krall is ultimately identified as a deformed Balthazer M. Edison, captain of the U.S.S. Franklin, a ship that, according to Scotty, disappeared without a trace in 2164, shortly after the foundation of the Federation of Planets. Krall/Edison is also identified as a former M.A.C.O. (Starfleet Marines), and mentions fighting during the Xindi War (2153-2154) as well as the Romulan-Earth Wars (2156-2160). Especially the mentioning of the Xindi War is interesting, because this places him directly on board the Enterprise NX-01, during the events of the third season of Enterprise (2001). He later states that he became disillusioned when the Federation was founded, and there was no apparent need for soldiers anymore. He received command of the U.S.S. Franklin in recognition of his services for Starfleet, and later disappeared. Some viewers have noted that this does not seem to fit in the official Star Trek timeline. If Edison received command of a ship after the Romulan Wars, how could it be a warp 4 ship? By the time the wars had ended, the Enterprise NX-01 and the Columbia NX-02 had already been flying with warp 5 engines for many years. So this is a potential error on the part of the writers of Star Trek Beyond.
However, there is a fitting explanation for this. According to the Star Trek timeline, warp 2.5 was achieved in 2142, and warp 3 in 2145. Since we know that the Enterprise NX-01 launched with an experimental warp 5 engine in 2151, the prototype warp-4 vessel U.S.S. Franklin must have been built somewhere in the late 2140s. This is sustained by several other observations: the ship is very close in design and size to the Enterprise NX-02 (relatively flat with the nacelles almost directly attached to the saucer section), it has transporters that were only used for cargo (Enterprise NX-01 was the first with a transporter that could also transport humans), and it still has conventional torpedoes for weapons (Enterprise NX-01 started out with these, but soon switched to photon torpedoes). So the U.S.S. Franklin must have been used as a cargo ship long before Edison received command of it. By that time, it must have been at least 11 years old, capable of only warp 4 and without transporters for personal transfer.
