26 Jun 2015 If you work in an office with any kind of corporate dress code, you've by now no doubt built up a wardrobe filled with a variety of shirts and ties in different colors, patterns, and textures. But do you know how to pair them? Can checks go with plaid? Stripes with stripes? Purple witha lighter shade of purple?
18 Aug 2017 Fiance has put down some requirements. One that I wear an ivory shirt (apparently to match her dress color)and two that neckwear incorporate wedding colors, burgundy and/or plum. The guidance ive received so far that due to suit-shirt combo cant pick a solid tie. Gentlemen, do you agree with that logic?
16 May 2013 Learning to match your shirts and ties together so they work well may be an art, but it's one you can learn. This infographic from men's designer footwear company Beckett Simonon shows you how to mix the riskiest kinds of shirts and ties: ones with patterns.
Your tie needs to work off of your shirt, whether it's a variation of the same colour or a colour that's completely opposite. For instance, if you're wearing a purple shirt, no matter what the shade, you can look at the colour wheel and see what colours are opposite purple. So, it would be anything from blue to yellow to even grey.
The Dark Knot Tip: Have one of these triadic colors be the dominant color of your tie, and have the color of your shirt as a background color in your tie. An example of this is the tie and shirt combination below, with a blue shirt and red and navy (shade of blue) tie. Picture this with a solid charcoal grey suit—sounds perfect to
Another way of looking at matching tie patterns to your suits and shirts is to see if you are starting with a smaller scaled pattern shirt, a larger scaled shirt pattern, or no pattern at all. If your shirt is a solid color, find a tie with the same color in the background.
26 Apr 2011 You want your ties to match your clothing — not look good by themselves. Coordinating your tie, dress shirt, and suit isn't rocket science. All it requires is a basic understanding of proportion, pattern, and color which can be used to build an interchangeable wardrobe.
Pairing a non-traditional dress shirt with a traditional tie only creates a disjointed look. Knitted or woollen ties should be the go-to choice here, the classic combination being a button-down chambray shirt with either a navy knitted or grey wool tie; both perfect for a smart-casual job interview.
