It's not so bad at first, but as the story expands and save files get thicker, the loading screens for even the simplest transitions can sometimes drag on for a minute or more.

The savegame files are .ZIP archives - growing in size with each area you enter and containing tons of runtime state data. The used version of the Unity engine isn't brilliant when it comes to savegames. #1.
