Anybody comparing this Movie's Story (Storyline) to the StarWars Franchise, Mad Max Franchise, really wasn't paying attention to what this Movie's Storyline is about. Maybe if you mention the Resident Evil Franchise and or the Alien Franchise then I would agree.
There needs to be more of these movies, well written scripts, screenwriters, actors, sets and locations, as this is titled Science Fiction Volume One, I want to see the others.
The next should be The Revenge of The Osiris Child, Indi Sommerville and Sy Lombrok covertly boards the Flagship of General Lynex as the Flotilla safely orbits the Planet.
I wanted to like this one because initially it had the elements and 'feel' that most good Sci-Fi movies have when they hit the mark. However about 20 minutes in my enthusiasm began to wane and so did my attention. By the time I was half way through I was bored and restless.
I'd not heard of this one, so it took me by surprise with some decent actors, a respectable production, and a reasonable plot. There are some great shots with 'Mad Max' type wasteland scenery, and some fairly detailed well designed sets. However the execution is poor and I think this is primarily due to a very week story and a bad script. As I said the plot is a good one, but what unfolds is a weak story with very underdeveloped events which are pieced together haphazardly. We end up with a sequence of boring scenes (bar one or two) that simply can't hold the film together sufficiently.
Personally I would think the whole story should have gone through another re-write. It felt a lot like a TV or 'Sy-Fy' Channel production simply because the substance which often adds meaningful dimension to movie productions was woefully absent leaving it thin and listless. In truth I made it to the end with only half my attention in tact and that's a shame for something which had so much potential. I'm not saying this one necessarily had the quick flash in the pan feel of the 'Sy-Fy' channel movies that are rolled out conveyor belt fashion. It absolutely didn't. In fact i'm pretty sure a lot of work went into this one, but it is still underdeveloped and not ready for production IMO.
Some elements were dire; the terra-forming creatures, the bar scene characters, and a few others just didn't work well whilst others, particularly those with the lead's daughter, were very good. Overall the scenes were simply too long too boring.
Ultimately this one fails to deliver, and I wouldn't recommend it given its shortcomings.
Such is the case of The Osiris Child, a series of scenes that cut away from interesting developments to flashbacks with a vengeance, as though “interesting developments" killed director Shane Abbess’s dog.
