Set a decade after the U.S.S Voyager's return to Earth, a rag-tag crew of renegades and outcasts must covertly work with Admiral Chekov and Tuvok to stop forces threatening the Federation from outside, and within.
When a seemingly unstoppable new enemy threatens the very existence of the Earth, Admiral Pavel Chekov (Walter Koenig) is forced to work outside the boundaries of Starfleet's rules to combat this deadly new foe. When planet after planet winks out of existence, yet Starfleet refuses to act, Chekov turns to Commander Tuvok (Tim Russ, who also directs), the new head of Starfleet's covert operations division, Section 31. Together, they assemble a new elite strike-force, consisting of rogues, outcasts and criminals, led by the fearless yet haunted Lexxa Singh (Adrienne Wilkinson). The Renegades' mission is simple: take on an army and stop their leader, Borrada (Bruce Young), from destroying the Earth. Outnumbered and out-gunned, the ragtag crew is in an adrenaline-pumping race against time and space. But they soon find their foes are the least of their concerns: the real trouble may be coming from within!
It is difficult to take this movie serious when you have Edward Furlong playing in it. The guy is stoned even when acting. The movie itself has mixed feelings since this is another face of Star Trek with mercenaries, wars, politics and betrayals which has nothing to do with the original concept of Star Trek ("going where no one has gone before").
Adrienne Wilkinson did a horrible porn acting attempt as the captain, they should have left that alien thing before her take the lead, it would have certainly been more interesting.
The movie does pack a nice plot, but nothing too fancy and the recognizable character from the previous movies are faded away in the background making this movie lose a lot of its essence.
The CGI is, well its all they could afford I guess. I can't complain much there because I rather enjoyed seeing old CGI mingle with a Star Trek movie.
Hope they don't make a series out of it because it is really not worth continuing it further. I do however recommend they remake this movie with better actors, with better acting performance, a bit more plot polishing and better CGI because it has the potential of being a great collection movie of the Star Trek franchise.

So, I ma not all that techy when it come to the Star Trek Universe. I love the TV Shows, Love the movies, love the genre. With that love I decided to watch this movie.
I certainly had some issues with the plot or rather, what was the plot? I can understand folks thinking this is a pilot for something but I don't think it should go any further. What makes no sense at all is the ending. Captain Alvarez busts into the room and then suddenly they are all in "Admiral" Checkov's office talking about how he can only hold them off for 2 hours. What magic rabbit did he pull out of a hat to stop the Captain in the office? And who's office was this portal in anyway? I dunno, I just feel there should have been more thought put into the writing.
