MI6's top assassin (Mark Strong) has a brother. Unfortunately for him, he's a football hooligan (Sacha Baron Cohen) from the town of Grimsby. Nobby has everything a man from the poor English fishing town of Grimsby could want - 9 children and the most attractive girlfriend in northern England (Rebel Wilson). There's only one thing missing in his life: his little brother, Sebastian. After they were adopted by different families as children, Nobby spent 28 years searching for him. Upon hearing of his location, Nobby sets off to reunite with his brother, unaware that not only is his brother an MI6 agent, but he's just uncovered a plot that puts the world in danger. On the run and wrongfully accused, Sebastian realizes that if he is going to save the world, he will need the help of its biggest idiot.

Directed by Louis Leterrier Grimsby has hysterical toilet humour, one liners and wit, think Kingsman (2014) mixed with a contemporary Austin Powers, Sacha Baron Cohen is side splitting funny as dimwitted Nobby who finds out that his sibling is a top MI6 agent. Packed with laugh out loud moments, in contrast Sebastian played by Mark Strong is straight faced Sebastian, reminiscent of Jason Statham in Spy (2015).

With the U.K. and South African setting giving it some weight, there's a good music score as the two brothers team up to uncover a sinister plot. When Nobby leaves his council house and kids there's stunts, computer game POVs shoot 'em ups and stunts galore. The orphaned brother backstory ground it but it works best when Cohen is centre stage like an Oasis band member reject, shooting bad guys like a James Bond wanna be.

Great funny close to the bone fun.
I am generally not a Cohen fan but I decided to give this film a chance. The previews looked hilarious and I figured it might be a decent film. Unfortunately the trailer showed the best parts of the film. We went to a 7 pm showing of this film on a Friday night - date night. Empty theater...except for my husband and I. I was thoroughly unimpressed with this film and as previously done, Cohen's performance (to me) was a major let down. Hell, some scenes were so outrageous, they took away from the rest of the film. I think I fell asleep for part of it as well. Not a good sign if your film's theater is empty and one of the only 2 people in the theater is falling asleep. This is not a film that I would recommend to any of my friends/family. Sorry, Mr. Cohen, but you might want to re-evaluate some things.
Baron Cohen and Strong are both robustly physical performers, and their finest moments are when they’re grappling with each other, producing a great tangle of limbs and teeth. But the script, credited to Baron Cohen, Phil Johnston and Peter Baynham (based on a story by Baron Cohen and Johnston), is not especially generous to the other members of the cast.
