13 Apr 2015 I was in the middle of setting up an Excel template based on the page count of each scanned PDF files in a particular folder. Manually filling the info in is fine if there are only handful scanned documents but it would take too much time with many errors along the way if there are 50 or even 100 of them.

Select that, copy, paste into excel or opencalc, you got it. In Adobe Acrobat Pro, go to file > create PDF > merge files into a single PDF. Then add files and select the files you want. Click combine, and see how many pages are in the final PDF.

Update: Well, in my excitement, having just done some painful work with PDF's a few days ago, I jumped on an answer, not realizing that you (the OP) followed up to your own node with a mostly similar solution. except that yours keeps a running total of total pages across multiple PDF files.

Where I work, we typically produce several thousand PDF and TIFF files a day. Each individual file can have anywhere from one to over three hundred pages.
A simple command line executable called: pdfinfo. It is downloadable for Linux and Windows. You download a compressed file containing several little PDF-related programs. Extract it somewhere.
