The Punisher is one of the few decent "real" Marvel characters so I was quite excited when I heard they were doing a new series (even if it was the dude from Walking Dead instead of Frank Grillo as The Punisher himself). They have gone away from what made the character great to include story lines that aren't important (and a totally unnecessary sex scene), whiny annoying side characters and a lead character who is afraid to commit violence (the opposite of what made him popular in comics). They've tried to make everything PC and have focused on government conspiracies like every other show *yawn* From the moment he puts his Punisher vest in the bin at the start of the show I was concerned and it took 8 episodes before it started to include enough action to make me interested. Marvel is the entertainment equivalent of Apple and people need to stop believing the hype surrounding every new thing they do.
I've really enjoyed the Netflix Marvel shows (yes, even Iron Fist and Luke Cage, though to much lesser degrees than Dare Devil and Jessica Jones). I read Dare Devil, Iron Fist and Powerman comic books as a kid and I am glad that I only remember the broad strokes of each of these characters, because I do not have the bias or the need for acute adherence to comic books. As for The Punisher, I can say it is probably my favorite of the Netflix Marvel original series. It might just be because it is the newest, but I don't that because I didn't like any of the other Netflix Marvel series more than Dare Devil and Jessica Jones until The Punisher. This actually surprised me because I've disliked all of the Punishers movies I've seen. I think what I liked most about Netflix's Punisher was that, as outrageous as the premise is (it's from a comic book after all), the characters felt based in reality. As they say, you can write any character as crazy and "out there" as you please, as long as that character obeys the rules of the Universe you've described in your story and Frank Castle fits perfectly into the Universe in which Iron Fist, Dare Devil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage exist, but still feels like a normal human.
